Matts old White P4

Post by Kermit »

Sort of started this thread in the wrong place last night

I spent yesterday in Shrewland having a new exhaust fitted to the White P4 Matt used to have until I bought it :D
Bit of a long day as the M5 north bound was closed so decided to go the long way around through Stow on the wold and the fosse way (forgot what a lovely road that is).
By the time I got there the front pipe was on and looked amazing.
A few hours later and another one of Shrew's friends met (hopefully he is going to sort the wing mirror supports for FMJ) and a friendly Rottweiler "pup" all was done and ready to fire up and listen.

Only problem being that I cocked up the photos and can't get the video to play

SO hopefully Shrew can post some pics.

Here's one of the P4 anyway

Answer to question 2

I wouldn't be writing this if she did

Answer to question 1

Need to get MOT work done
Visscous coupling needs replacing / refurb
Rubber for TSW wheels (thanks Matt)
MOT

Then tidy up the bottom of the Doors and nsr wing
Change door handles to S2 ones
Colour code all black trim (and handes) white

Have fun :D

Hi all

Indeed, a busy few days eh H, and if i know you well enough, this should turn into a great car once more.

I guess some would think the order of things may be a little off, but I'm quite with it, get some mods in early to get the excitement levels up!

And so, a pretty unique exhaust was commissioned to kick this off.

H actually requested a 4into1 manifold type thing, which was quite fortuitous, as i had a race built manifold sat in the workshop, so all i needed to check was whether it would fit around the P4 layout of parts, but of course, where theres a will, theres always a way :P

H is also, as we all know, a lover of vivid colours, and likes to make a bit of a statement with his motors, si the manifold being mild steel rather than our usual stainless, allowed me to indulge that for him, so once fitted up and checked, i painted it with a nice bright vht red to show it off and preserve it too

H also likes volume, so a single rear silencer and large rolled back tip, was sure to give it a nice note, with plenty of oomph and tone, and taking into consideration the future body mods, we also decided to straight the run out the back and avoid the puny allowance alfa afforded us, so this will be blanked out before the paint hits.

MOT time has arrived

Test date22 February 2016 Test ResultFail Odometer reading82,836 miles MOT test number8586 7281 9909 Reason(s) for failure
Horn not working (1.6.2a)
nearside front Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded strut top mount (2.4.A.3)
offside rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded floor (2.4.A.3)
nearside rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded inner sill (2.4.A.3)
Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded both rear inner arches (2.4.A.3)
nearside front Headlamp aim too high (1.8)
Battery insecure (1.9.1)
Advisory notice item(s)
floors rusty
lower suspension arms rusty
rear discs rusty
front inner arches rusty

"holes" not that big TBH, in fact within an hour of the car returning all but the front inner wing and the rear wheel arches (odd place to go ??) had been done which included taking the carpet up!!.
As for the "rusty" floor I think there being careful as the over underseal underseal (yes old owner decided to coat everything in White Shultz) is starting to flake - something I have to get removed!.

Battery however was completely my fault as I had to buy a new one and couldn't be assed to do it up just for getting it to the MOT
After the rest of the welding all I need is to pop down to Alex who hopefully has the mounting for the viscous coupling I need.

Clean up the discs, inner arches (all 4) and arms.

Then out with the scraper on that underseal

Then down to the body shop for a all white touch up.

Thanks Chris, went down and met Alex (33 bits) - what a nice guy :D
He has a "new" mounting which will need to be modified and I also got a great pair of mirrors and some permanent 4 badges for a very reasonable price and a good old chat.
He has a lovely 33 sportswagon and an amazing 155.

MOT and work cost me £280 inc VAT    but all that's stopping me now is the coupling - Oh and that I have gave my notice in at work :o .

Can someone tell me where the central locking module is located on the P4 as it is always on and drains the "new" battery

Thanks

Had some quality time with her today, got the wheel arch covers off to see what the advisory was all about.

No holes just surface rust which with some new age treatment shouldn't get any worst.
TBH thelast owner probably went over the top as he body shultz over the original "dinorol"? which made it crack.
The nearside was no where near as bad.

Plus sides are that the rear wing although has been "touched up" is not full of filler like normal :D

and the rear hatch looks pretty good.
Got her booked into the paint shop on the 1st so will miss SAD

Oh well will just have to take the 75

Had to get a photo of FMJ in

Outside jobs nearly done - just the interior to clean and reassemble after to paint shop left the doors and boot open.
Must say thanks to Alex down in Clevedon, for all the parts and advice - top man.

Should be at MITCAR so will leave pics out for now.

Took her to MITCAR today, little bit worried as I've only done around 70 miles in her so far.
Took it steady on the Fosse way there and then the SAT NAV took me to the wrong way on the M40 so ended up doing a 25 mile detour
Anyway once there I soar some welcome faces but not many 33's - in fact only 2 more :o
Still a good day all in, and a bit of a race with a MX5 - well I didn't want to push her on her first outing (but he did take a while to overtake!)
Enjoyed the day and learnt more about the 33 P4.

Sad sad Day,Wife has told me she's got to go !!

I've had quite a lot of fun with her (the 33 that is) but work isn't working out as planed.
The Monte Carlo has already gone to a good new home and I hope the 33 does the same.
She is booked into the local indie next Monday as I won't sell her without having the slightly slipping clutch, new cam belts (will allow me at least one go at 5000 + rpm before she moves on) water pump, new radiator (from Alex) and new rubber fuel hoses sorted.
Then a good old spit and polish.

Anyone here will get first dibs, I'm looking for £5000

I still have the original P4 alloys with tyres which will be included in the price.

Please give this consideration as it's either the 33 P4 or the 3.0 V6 75 (why isn't there sad imoji on this page ??)

Thanks
H

Sad indeed, i hope things turn around workwise for you H, on the plus, 5k for a p4, i do hope so.

As possibly the rarest of the boxer cars, they appear to catching up and climbing pricewise rather well lately!
