COMPOMOTIVE TS600 SERIES SPLIT RIM WHEELS - SOLD SOLD SOLD

Post by PETROLHEAD »

NOW SOLD!

Ok, now this is a little bit special, and possibly a unique and final opportunity!
DSC_2937.JPG

Late last year, Compomotive UK announced a "re-shuffle" of their business, which in real terms, meant the receivers were banging at the door and they have since closed their factory doors in Wolverhampton forever it seems :o :o :o

i have to say, as a wheel whore, this was really a big deal tome personally, as Compomotive were just about the last English performance and quality wheel manufacturer, and in my own opinion, probably the best made mass produced wheels on the market, bar none!

It saddened me even further to hear how much stock was skipped as scrap in an attempt to clear some creditors, how very short sighted!

Needless to say, this has had a dramatic impact on the used wheels market for Compo's, and thank god i bought the wheels i wanted for the sud's some time ago, prices are on the hike, Big Time!

So, on to this one off opporunity.

I have in stock, a set of 4 x Compomotive TS 600/601 series 3 piece split rims, 2 fronts are 16" x 7.5j wide, and the 2 x rears are 16" x 9j

and they are BRAND SPANKING NEW! complete with spare centre caps, valves, security bolts and keys!

Never had a tyre on, only one of them had ever been looked at out of their original factory packed boxes, this is an incredible find!

They are 5 stud 120mm pcd, and i will post more info such as centre bore and offest figures once i carefully unbox them myself!

These were purchased in the late eighties (best guess) by a now late gentleman who was an old Jag man, in Wolverhampton, only a few miles from the Compomotive factory, at a cost of around £1000, or at least thats all his wife was told!

She had assumed when the last of his Jags was sold, it was the end of it all, but upon his passing, other family members turned up a massive hoard of car parts, new and used, hidden up in what sounds a substantial loft. These were part of that find, and it appears that they were bought, briefly looked at, and then tucked away and completely forgotten about for the last 20+ years!

The TS range are gorgeous, and rare as hell!

I am very very tempted to keep them and adapt them onto my 33, but at their current value, i am definitely better off selling them and using the money to finish the 33 and get it on the road pronto!

These are worth very different figures to different people, so i would prefer interested parties to make me an offer for them, but remember, this is an absolute one off chance, you will not find a set of brand new factory boxed TS 600 like this, EVER again! terribly sad! :( :( :(

more pictures to come...

thanks for looking,

Shrew, they are indeed gorgeous and you're sitting on gold dust.

The size and PCD are perfect for Ferrari 308/328 series cars and I'd reckon you'd be best off selling via a Ferrari site or specialist.

And here were my set being put to use last year.

Hi Ted

you might be onto something there Ted, thank you.

I'll have to check first, but i thought Ferrari ran 5 x 108 pcd, but those wheels do indeed look like Ts 600 series just without the centres anyway.

There a gorgeous wheel, and i'd love to keep them. Never going to be available again are they, and i checked around at competitors adverts, and the last time any came up was in 2012 for used but tidy wheels, for £900, Sold!

So i think brand new for similar money is looking cheap! ;)

You're the wheel guru Shrew so I'll bow to your better knowledge!

But either way brand new they are still worth a fortune so don't give them away!

Good luck.

Hi Ted

Wheel Guru eh? cheers mate,

alloy anoraks like me are normally nicknamed wheel whore! or rim tart!

i'm not sure which is worse? :( ha ha!

The ferrari pcd stud fitment is as i suspected, for that era cars at least anyway, so right style and size, but adapters would be needed.

That said, adapters are very common place these days, as the search for that elusive Uber Scarce set of rims even rarer turns up the "perfect" retro wheel, so most folk now are more than happy to buy the wheel in the stud pattern they find it, and adapt either the car or wheel to suit.

Companies like G23 engineering are making a fortune from that very type of thing, but i have access to several local machine shops and engineers that make the very same for a fraction of their prices, same old same old i suppose, more about who you know rather than what you know eh? lol!

I have a strong enquiry from a guy in the states if i can get them to him safely,

just shows how rare they are eh!

Ok, so here they are, unboxed for the first time, very likely since their stamped build date, 15.4.91 !!!

What stunners eh!!!

and i even took the opportunity to offer them up on my sud (wrong pcd) just to show what they look like in comparison to a car we all know.

DSC_2956.JPG

Currently on Wheel Whores Classified for £1000, or ebay for £1200 (covering fee's), with shipping of £45 within mainland UK, or £200 international.

I'm now told several times that this price is actually too cheap, as they would have cost that in 1991, and the only used set i have seen was in 2012 and sold for £900, so perhaps although irts a lot to lay out for wheels, they are in fact, pretty darn cheap, such is the classic / retro wheels market currently.

Part Exchange of quality wheels also welcome, always interested in more rims!

thanks,

Shrew

Just a quick update on these Compomtive wheels that may be of interest to know in general too.

I have made contact with a guy, who can custom make pcd adaptors and spacers cheaper than anyone ive used in the past, and from good grade materials too, so not cutting corners for cost.

So if you fancy the wheels but don't have the pcd stud pattern (not likely in this forum!) they can be adapted for within reasonable costs.

cheers
