Tims' Sud

I've had this Sud of Tims' sat waiting for work to commence for a year or so now I'd guess, poor thing being pushed around whilst other cars got attention.
With everything else that I had on the go finished off and the winter coming up a plan was made for the Sud to at last get some much needed attention.
Of course the plan is fairly fluid at this stage and liable for change but basically my instructions are to make the car solid again, install the roll cage to MSA guidelines then paint the shell.
It's a pretty solid shell as is really so we don't expect a huge amount of welding.... famous last words of course!
The cage install is kind of covering a few bases, Tim has spoken of building up a fast road Sud with the potential for it to be pressed into action should anything happen to the race Sprint.
Colour to be decided, a bit away from that at the moment

This is the car as it went into my little unit, hopefully next time it emerges it'll be a bit tidier and a lot shinier

The cage isn't the one from the car by the looks of the mounting points, most if not all of which I'll e redoing.

A few points where another cage had been attached are not allowed so there's a few repairs needed from that previous install.

The car is now raised up enough for me to start having a poke around at the sill to floor edge, looked like it would need some work although the outer sills appear to be great.

Bits of daylight could only mean one thing though, bigger holes need making

After a few months away from doing this type of work its taken me a while to get everything back together again, sorting out tools, a new batch of grinders etc.
Plan is to go up Saturday and make some headway.
I did chop some more inner sill out and fold a repair section ready to weld but I'll do that next visit.
Let's see how solid this solid sud is

It is funny how the metal they made the jacking points out of is in good shape. That looks just like mine did, but the jacking point cleaned up perfect.

What about Abarth yellow?
Seen a Su d years ago in that colour and it looked fantastic.
Shame about not being able to have additional mounting points as that really does help the shell.
Can you add any extra beams to the cage if they don't come in contact with the bodywork? What about a bar to mount the harnesses off?

S3 shell, but I have series 1 ti trim for it, rear spoiler (got to figure out how to make it fit/work), nos front spoiler, s1 wings, grill lights front and rear. So no arches. Just like your lovely sud Keith.

Got a few hours in this afternoon.
Started off by finishing the repair plate for the inner sill.

Luckily it's still very solid at the forward section as this is the area where the roll cage mounts will go in.

The floor then needed a plate making up to fill the void, flintstones driving isn't the best idea!

Underside of the car though had the gooey black underseal over the top of the factory rubberised sealant, not a pleasant combination to remove. Once a heat gun and wallpaper scraper got the underseal off the knotted wheel on an angle grinder sorted the rest.

A clean up then some zinc primer to protect it then done for now.
I'll be consulting the MSA bluebook regulations to see what size and thickness of roll cage reinforcing plates need to be fitted.

Cheers guys, comments very much appreciated and a good source of inspiration to keep at it.

The reason for removing half the width of the floor rather than just the 3 inches or so that really only needed taking out at the sill side are simple really.
For one thing it gives much easier access to repair the inner sill rather than struggling to get the welder nozzle in a tight gap, another thing was the circular grommet being missing so one bigger plate to remove that in one rather than multiple patches.
In this instance there's also the consideration for the roll cage mounting point which I don't want to have to make over a joint in the floor repair.
