The Brera brought her back to life after 15 years of dry storage and not being run!

The only rust on her was the front valance and the passenger footwell (rusted from inside out!), just bought a new valance, going to get it done this week hopefully!

Thanks for the welcome!

Indeed... He's looking after her until she's Mot'd

How are you? I used to have the two tone sud from rusper, I remember meeting you at the Horsham Italian day.

And the work begins!

Car is in great shape other than the passenger foot well and the front valence... she also had some rust on the inner skin of the engine bay, getting it all gone at once.

I also picked up a 33 1.7 16v at the weekend for the engine... Thinking about copying Mark @ Alfa Lusso and boring the 1.7 engine out to a 1.9 :)

Looking at the tyres it's still got the metric wheels they might have to go when you need new tyres .

Hello there, I'm in the process of bringing my Sud back to life so it's good to see you're at doing the same thing. I was just wondering where your front panel went? The front brakes seem to be seized on mine, hoping the calipers respond to servicing. How are yours?

Hi mate, yours looks a good find too!

Front panel was rotten and I've had it cut off and about to be replaced

How much rust does yours have?

Mine had been in dry storage for 15 years. So the brakes needed work, but calipers w, ere fine... Fuel was green!

Well I've been surprised how little rot there is, just a plate on the wing rail and one by the jacking point but that's it.

Yours will be good with a new front panel, should make changing the cambelts easier with better access!

Haha, that's true!

I just bought a 1.7 33 for the engine....

I'm only planning on outboard brakes, suspension and engine upgrades for mine, everything else standard... What about yourself?

It would be good to add outboard brakes and drums at the rears since I've got a 1.7 engine fitted already but for the moment I think I'll just get what I have to work properly. Looking forward to getting mine on the road as soon as poss!

Me too... My welding and painting should be done Wednesday, then a carb refurb and hopefully mot'd early next week.

Where are you based?

Don't convert them to 33 suspension. The car drive so much better with the Sud suspension IMO :)

I'd have to agree with that.

I've driven a 'Sud with the 33 outboard brake set-up and for me it was not as sweet as driving a 'Sud with inboard brakes.

The car seems to lose something....

If it was me I wouldn't do it but on the other hand if you do go for the 33 brakes you do get a bigger choice of calipers/vented discs to fit.

But then you'd lose your handbrake so you'd have to ditch the rear calipers and discs and install the 33's rear drums/shoes, handbrake and re-route the handbrake cables too.

Just seems like a lot of work for reducing your driving pleasure.

But then it's not my car. You'll do what you want when all said and done, and why not? The main thing is that it's yet another one of our cars saved and that can only be good news!

Good luck with the MOT.

Thanks for that, how do you think the original brakes and suspension will cope with a 1.9 16v engine though?

You're almost certain to get loads of torque steer with an engine of that specification regardless of brake/suspension configuration unless a L.S.D. such as the one made by Quaiffe is fitted (if you can get hold of one).

Either that or install the full running-gear from a 33 P4.

That's been done before. And that was very successful. Having driven one such modified car, I can tell you it had unbelievable grip and no trace of torque steer at all.

1.8 is what most people bore to. Not sure if 1.9 is pushing it. Ahm did 2.0 , but I'm guessing they where billet ?

Good work, you're moving fast there! I'm in Lytham near Blackpool. Unfortunately pesky work gets in the way of my Sud project so it will be the weekend when I get a chance to tinker once more..whereabouts are you?
