s2 Sud ti body trim on roof

Post by Alfa_Japan »

Hello gentlemen,

I don't have access to a parts manual for a s2 Sud ti, can anybody here inform me what the correct specification is of the trim which is positioned on the roof above the door window and rear side window? On the s1 ti & Berlina this trim was in body colour, for the s2 ti this was black & for the Berlina in chrome colour. For the ti the chrome trim was used but painted black if I'm not mistaking. I suppose these are plastic trim parts which can be "clicked" onto the geometry in the body? Can anybody tell me how this works?

I'm not sure what the appropriate English name for this part is, perhaps "rain gutter"?

In case this is a separate part does any of you have an idea whether it can be replace by a reproduced version or some generic trim which is readily available?

Thanks in advance for any helpful reply

Potentially the explanation of my question is not clear. The picture below depicts what I'm wondering about. I can only imagine the black coloured roof trim is the "clickable" trim also used for the second series Berlina and Giardinetta (Berlina and Giardinetta had chrome coloured trim though). The picture below I simply took from the Internet, picture is not mine and no copyright infringement is intended. I don't know the owner of the picture therefore it was unfortunately possible to add the name of the copyright owner.

the gutter trim does roll round and click into place, roll it round from the roof direction sort of pulling it down and round to fit it on. reverse to remove.

Thanks KevJTD for the information, that was more or less what I was expecting.

In case of missing this specific trim does anybody here have a tip on how to recreate it? Or potentially somebody has this trim lying around and doesn't need it anymore ;-)

i'd think recreating would be all but impossible, a specific profile to it that it needs to be able to click to the gutter.
I've a feeling the painted ones are only the chrome effect ones with paint on....so if you found a later black one you may be able to clean it back?

Hi Kev,

Not sure I understood what you wrote. I'm looking for the black trim. Are you implying that the series 3 suds also have these profiles on top of the metal profile integrated on top of the roof? I was under the impression that only series 2 Sud had these plastic click on profiles on top of the body profile?

S3 have the trim as well and they all fit as I had a s2 trim on my s3 they are stainless steel so some are bare and some painted so black ones could be sanded and polished

Gents, another related question, the A-Pillar metal profile is that supposed to be black colour or body colour on the s2 ti? For the Berlina and Giardinetta these metal profiles riveted to the A-Pillar were in body colour, but for the s2 ti they appear to be black. Anybody here with a factory original s2 ti who can confirm this assumption?

The A pillar trims on the S2 Ti's are as pointed out above stainless steel pressings riveted to the underside of the main A pillar and simply painted satin back, same as on the S3 Ti's. They have a plastic gasket between the stainless steel trim and the A pillar. You can buy the correct size stainless steel washers to go with the rivets on Ebay.

The Alfasud Super uses exactly the same trim pieces, but in polished instead of painted form. The roof gutter cappings are the same stainless steel material on both models, you can easily use Super trims on a Ti as 2 door and 4 door trims are all the same dimensions and thus interchangeable.

You can refinish either type by simply lightly roughening the surface of the metal with a fine abrasive paper before acid etch priming and then spraying them satin black - I saw some very nicely refurbished A pillar and gutter trims on a series 3 Ti Green Cloverleaf at MITCAR 2016. The car concerned is owned by Carl who goes under the name of Sudman on this forum. I am sure he would be happy to inform you of the exact process and materials he used to refinish them.

@Alfasam, thanks for your reply. Do you by any chance have a link to the rivet washers you are referring to? Also thanks for pointing out the metal profile is supposed to be satin black, I was under the impression that the metal profile (not the plastic one that's clipped on top of it) was supposed to be the body colour.
