Alfasud Campari

Post by SudS2ti »

The yellow Campari is a car I owned in the 1980's. These were special editions created by the Blackpool Alfa Romeo dealership 'Hargreaves and Bailey Ltd'.
I would imagine it was a promotion to boost sales at the time. All the decals were painted, I would assume by a local bodyshop.
During my ownership, unfortunately I had a car pull out into the rear quarter panel. This took the bodyshop quite a while to repair having to repaint all the 1.5 ti graphic in three different colours bit by bit.
The black car was owned by someone I met at a car show only this year in Blackpool, he was looking at my red Sud and said 'I used have one of these, it was a black Campari' he was as surprised as I was when I showed him a picture of the yellow one I used to own.
The white one, I have no information on.

Hi Micheal
Interesting photos. Just a bit of back story to The Campari link (although I’m surprised the colour schemes don’t seem to relate?). It was probably due to the fact that when the Alfa Romeo dealer team started to race the sud. The main title sponsor was indeed Campari. (It’s an Italian liqueur type drink that taste like a bad mouthwash) due to Dads involvement with the dealer team he actually developed a liking for it. It was only when Campari discontinued their support that Napolina stepped in as the Title sponsor I seem to recall there was short time where both names may of appeared on the cars. From memory The reason that the dealer team always had food and beverage sponsors was that Mike Lindsey the Team principles business was the import and export of Food brands. This also accounts for the John west salmon sponsorship in the later years of the team.
This painting hangs in my dining room and is of one of the first Dealer team suds that Westune built. JEN 99P It was driven by John Myerscough and Rex Green Slade. There was sister car JEN 100P During its development it remained road legal and was even used on the school run.

Thanks Lou, this all makes a lot more sense now.
I can also remember the tv advert for the Campari drink with Lorraine Chase in it.
That’s a great picture, especially for you with your dad’s connection.
Interestingly I share the same surname with John Myerscough, no connection that I am aware of though.
