Bolts to hold sud strut to hub and ball joint pinch bolts.

Post by Pedrokat »

Dear all..... having just replaced a front wheel bearing on my sud braked Sprint .... I was wondering if anyone has a source of new bolts.... the ones that hold the strut to the hub... and the pinch bolt for ball joint... mine are alright.... but have been apart many times now it's nearly 38 years old and threads are wearing.... I fancy a new set... but I assume Its all no longer available from Alfa at this point.
Any ideas?

Don't think there's a set as such available but easy enough to source new bolts if you get the dimensions.

I seem to remember that the ball joint pinch bolts are M10 x 1.25 metric fine

Yes, as Dave says most stuff is M10x1.25
There are occasionally some ultra fine M10x1 on the Italian stuff but not sure the Sud has many.

Thanks for the replies Gents, the bolts are only part threaded hence looking for original ish ones.
But will see what I can get M10×1.25.
Mine are in and holding but are showing there age after 38 years of service..
I assume alfa will have long since discontinued.
Cheers

I use Kayfast for mail order fixings etc.
Normally Zinc plated 8.8 are they are strongest

But they don't seem to sell M10x 1.25 metric fine (only M10x 1.5).......Ebay should be able to source some 1.25

FYI. A "bolt" is partially threaded.

A "set screw" is fully threaded.

The spec for the thread length of different size bolts is on Kayfast website

Looking closer at Kayfast, they do M10x 1.25 8.8 unplated black bolts up to 100mm long

For the bottom ball joint pinch bolt it is very important to get the correct size of shoulder as that sits in the recess in the ball joint, all too often I've seen people use the wrong bolt and eventually the ball joint pin works loose wrecking the hub as the pin moves up and down elongating the hole..

Ive used a firm called Margnor over many years and I ring them up explain what I have and then send one if needed and they send it back.

They have been very helpful on some proper tricky stuff . ie Gillet motorbikes
