1984 sprint 1.3 wheel size
1984 sprint 1.3 wheel size
Hi, Newbie to this forum. I live in Central France, where, a couple of years ago I acquired a 1984 Sprint 1.3 out of a barn. It's surprisingly sound, but a previous owner had grafted on a horrible fiberglass front spoiler/bumper and rear skirt! These have been removed and I've acquired a pair of early sprint stainless bumpers which I intend to fit. (I hope they will fit my (later) car. Also the car was fitted with a set of 15" alloy wheels with spacers! I want to replace these with original wheels, steel or alloy. However I'm trying to find out what size would have been fitted originally. I have to have the right size as the French authorities are very anal when it comes to wheel/tyre size. As far as I can make out it would have left the factory with 13" steel rims, fitted with 165/70 SR13 tyres, but the (earlier)wreck that I acquired the bumpers from had 14" steels, which I have acquired, although they are not all of the same design! I would like to acquire either a set of the correct steels, (complete with hubcaps), or a set of original alloys. I would also need a full set of the correct wheel bolts for whichever type. I could also do with some contacts for any parts/spares, (both new and used), that I may well need in the coming months. The car is now on blocks in my neighbour's dry secure barn where I can slowly work on it, (Time and finances permitting). Photo attached of her sitting in her new resting place! Many thanks in advance, and look forward to info. Tim. PS Front wheels are two of the 14"steels that I have.

Re: 1984 sprint 1.3 wheel size
Hello and welcome to the forum Tim, rest assured you've found the right place.
In my humble opinion, i think 5j x 13' steel wheels would be the oe fitment for that model/year, but i will soon be corrected if I'm wrong so sit tight a mo.
As for who, when, where etc to get bits from, you'd struggle to beat John. Justsuds on here and online. Always first port of call for that kind of original part.
Now if it was aftermarket alloys in silly sizes, that's a different story! Lol!

I'd agree Shrew, the 13 inch steel as standard or possibly the 13 inch finned alloy as an option ?
Re: 1984 sprint 1.3 wheel size
Thanks guys, now, (no rush!), does anyone have a set of either? complete if poss with centres and lug bolts. i can have someone in the UK either collect, (Subject to location), or receive them and then bring them when they drive down next to France.

Hey! did i get standard wheel query correct?

I don't see the steels very often, but the alloys do come and go on ebay every now and then, but i repeat to try John at Justsuds
in fact i'd be surprised if he can't source both option for you

I can't work out how to PM John at Justsuds! (Me an computers I suspect!).justsuds wrote:Thanks Shrew, - I have 13" steel and alloy in stock, - pm me for more info.

John, I'm just waitig for Alfa France to confirm that the car would have been sold with 13" wheels.
I'm only dubious as in the boot is a 14" steel rim.
In France the car will only pass the CT, (French MOT), if it has the correct original size wheels!
If they confirm, how much for a set of steels? Are the Alloys original Alfa option? Again how much for a set? (If poss a set= 5!)
I would also need the correct lug bolts.
Cheers. Tim.
Re: 1984 sprint 1.3 wheel size
Your sprint has the black side trim like the cloverleafs had and they came with the metric / 14inch pepper pots .

Pic of the 14inch pepper pots and I spotted a 1.3 badge on the rear.

The tyres were hard to get on the pepper pot metric, so the closest size is a 14inch wheel. Suspect someone changed the metric pepper pots for the 14inch steels. The 13inch steels were probably standard and the pepper pots an factory option ?

Re: 1984 sprint 1.3 wheel size
Finally got a reply from Alfa France. My car had 2 wheel size options, 13' fitted with 165/70 or 14" with 185/70 tyres.
I'll probably go for the 14" so I can have the slightly wider tyre. Also I have at least one good rim, need to check what patter the other ones I have are!

Re: 1984 sprint 1.3 wheel size
you sure that wouldn't have been 185/60R14? 70's in that size are VERY tall!Tim06 wrote:Finally got a reply from Alfa France. My car had 2 wheel size options, 13' fitted with 165/70 or 14" with 185/70 tyres.

Agreed,
I dont recall seeing them on 70s, and that is a balloon of a tyre isn't it!
