Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
And a sud rad is just as efficient if I remember previous debates rightly....?
Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
If your existing rad is ok, maybe find a convoluted or cranked hose to fit?
Would a top hose fit?
Maybe too short though

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
Thanks for all the thoughts chaps.
Will try a top hose as I think there is an old one in the stuff sent to me, thanks Kev !
(they have all been useful even if it has been to take in a shop and say` Have you one like this but smaller......')
The rad I got off John at just suds as he thought it the best he could supply me and between us we thought it would fit easily.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
Ah yes and no lugs underneath it to clearly locate on to, so wondering about if the rad will move once it is in place.
At this stage will try and see how solidly it is in place once this problem overcome as used to fitting most bits atleast twice.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
A suitably positioned horizontal rail to pick up the bottom rad fixings perhaps?
Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
It would be very tight, but as it only has to locate the rad it may well work. Then could bolt that through some of the vacant holes that litter the front.
Got a day off tue so shall look into it.
Many thanks

if there is room a pair of mounts could be knocked up and fitted in.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
Hi . This sounds stupid, but I have fitted Ram air foam filters on the webers and they have quick release buttons to press in underneath.
I am pressing but nothing seems to be happening.
Do not want to try too hard. What principle are they meant to work on ?
Thanks as ever chaps.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
Is it not like the push and twist pzeus fastener on the itg filter cages?
A picture might help too, I'm not overly familiar with the ram air versions

Will try and get a photo, but they are like two little buttons you obviously push up and the filter comes loose from the base plate but doesn't come off.
It feels just like it should and all that, but not!
The bottom hose is still very close to the belts despite mocking the rad up with mountings.
Has anyone compared a Sud rad and a 33 one, in case the outlet is higher on a Sud one and so I am better off buying a new rad and starting again.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
I think you will find a sud radiator is as deep as the fan housing. Your rad looks deeper unless that isn't a sud fan and surround.
Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
Hi.
Yes its a Sud fan surround which has been extended to fit the 33 rad. So that would make the Sud rad a lot less deep.
I think I had best have a chat with John about my options. Thanks for your input as always.

Hi Just adjusting bits on the side of the 40 Weber carbs and one arm moved oddly, so took it apart to find instead of a two stage bush
it was just a washer.
So does anyone one have a spare they are willing to part with please ?

sorted ! - one in the box with your other bits James, - good to speak to you today !
Cheers, John.

Many thanks John.
Excellent service as ever, and will let you know how I go on with selling the RD400 headlight. Regards James

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
The problem with the ram air filter turned out to be a little toggle. The moment you get to see it you remember how it was and how easy it was when not on the car !

When I had gloves on the increase in friction helped it turn and release the filter.
Hi John. Carb bush fits perfectly thank you.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer

So bought it back and another project arrives.

Hi John. Headlight went all the way up to £62, to my amazement.junior wrote:Many thanks John.Excellent service as ever, and will let you know how I go on with selling the RD400 headlight. Regards James

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
Thanks for that. I just keep getting side-lined at the moment so its annoyingly slow, but cannot let people down when they have a crisis.
Mate had his workshop and classroom burn to the ground so helping with mending / restoring anything salvageable.
What a mess, makes chipping off undercoat quite reasonable as the burnt plastic makes everything you touch oily black.
Not enough insurance as he thought he might get broken in to and lose some stuff, but not everything.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer

Just realised I have made a lot of work not putting the speedo cable in before the engine. So before I make it any worse do you need to start from the bottom and take the rack off to bring it up behind it. Or will it loosen and squeeze behind it. Comments please.
With the breather pipe on the engine oil filler what is the best route to take the pipe off it to stop it becoming involved with the twin carbs.
I do wish to reinvent the wheel. Right angle bend ?
I may end up taking the pipe all the way back into the passenger side and using the water container it had as a catch tank.
Its a interesting feature and it seems a shame to leave it in the garage. Mind you not tried it with the seats in yet.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
Done the speedo cable and how some of you do it with out a pit a do not know. That caused a bit of cursing.
My own fault for not doing it at the right time.

worth taking the drivers side disc off if you didn't, still awkward to see what you're doing though without a lift or pit

No the disc is a real pain to get on as the size of the nuts on the bolts means they just catch the pads so each small nut needs to be positioned carefully,KevJTD wrote:it is a PITA mate, that's for sure.junior wrote:Done the speedo cable and how some of you do it with out a pit a do not know. tightened and then a bit taken off with a dremell to give clearance for the pads. Originally they just welded the nuts on and then did the bolts up tight.
Cannot even recall why I had to take the nuts off, but that was another small saga. What fun.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
What a day. Should have stayed in bed.
Still could not get the last bolt in the sump though it fitted when the engine was on the bench. Tried every trick I know.
So thought I would do something simple, but found the exhaust will not fit around the discs. That's from assuming stuff. Had a cup of tea.
Then went to get the seat which is loose in the car and caught it on the cloth which the speedo pod was resting on resulting in the connections being torn off the back of the speedo pod.
Had a cup of tea and a walk. Collected the post and the 180 degree alloy bend was there looking nothing like the advert. Not 180 and quite deformed. So that will not solve my radiator problem Went to fit the seat and the bolts and holes are way off, lots of messing and can still only get three in ! Either because I bent a bit of the floor back or the extra steel on the seat as it was badly rusted. Or both. Locked the shed and went inside.

Re: 1500ti restoration. Ex racer
At least you tried. I haven't had any quality time with the Nova in 2 weeks. Thought the 150W filament bulb in the garage had finally blown, but it turned out to be the electrical connections which had overheated and burned out. By then I had already ordered a set of four surface mount 600 x 600mm 40W LED lamp units with transformers. Finished wiring them in on Saturday - no problem seeing the lack of progress now

At least you had the sense to walk away and have a cup of tea.....many a car part in my garage has succumbed to a "red mist Thor hammer die you b'stard" episodes..... much to my regret later
Well done to you sir!
