Can any of you guys vouch for gains from fitting so called "Performance" air filters?

I would say you couldn't tell the difference in road use. In fact, in some cases the all-round performance could suffer, my K&Ns don't have any provision for thermostatic inlet temperature control, for example. But they do make a nice noise :D

another issue that I note the TS engines in particular suffer with is oil contamination from the filter oil getting onto the air flow meter and ruining it...
Giulietta JTD 170
Lancia Delta integrale
Lancia Flavia coupe 1.8 1963
Lancia Dedra turbo
Maserati 3200GT

I'm bad with people things
But I should have tried more

Was considering for the Sud following her engine rebuild but the cost for virtually no gain, don't think it's worth it. Thanks for replies.
