Cheap motorsport

Post by garygecko »

Having raced in the UK, I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of going racing down under. Yesterday I filled the Clio track car (that I am practicing in while I wait for the sud) up for 30 quid and drove it the my local track Baskerville. There was one marshal at the track, it's a bit like Brands Hatch Indy so he can see the whole circuit. Showed him my license and paid him 40 quid. I could use the track as much as I liked from 9.30 to 4.30. There was only six cars there as it was a cold Tuesday so I timed it so I had the track to myself. What a great day! Apparently it wasn't that long ago when you could just rock up and pick up the key for the gate. Race entries are 110 quid for four 7 lap races.

What a bargain!

That's how it should be Gary.

I'm currently paying 300 or so for a double header.

Track days get expensive here in summer at the big circuits, 200+ at Donington. Cadwell is the cheapest which helps as it's still the best.

Any uk Motorsport is now a rip off......it makes me feel ill every time I have to buy something new just to get out on circuit.

I've got a Clio 172, with cage and coil overs , destined for a new owner pretty soon, but a fantastic track day car or racer.

Yes, they justify the prices by being a double header, but I used to like having 10 or 12 weekends away with one race and a variety tracks to visit. But motorsport has never been cheap especially to be at the front.

Cadwell is a great track, for me it just makes number 1 in the UK for driving ahead of Brands Hatch GP. I still hold a lap record at Cadwell, mostly because Autoitalia is no more:)

172s are great for doing nothing to and taking out on the track. They don't have Alfas personality though!
