Scooters...

Post by its_welshy »

I'm thinking about purchasing a scooter for the summer...

im running a Brera, 33, and Sud So, I'm thinking about getting rid of the Brera and buying a scooter (I commute to work on the train)

I don't think you can get much cooler than the Italjet Velocifero, Only were for sale in the 90's.

I think I might just like buying vehicles where parts are a problem :)

Anyone else got/had a scooter?

Buy a cheap 2nd hand mtb and cycle to the station it's barely a mile.

the italjets are pretty cool, i had a few come through in deals some years ago, mainly Dragsters and Formula's though.

Quick, Quirky, but a little bit of a pain for parts and spares, very poorly supported over here i'm afraid, or at least that was the case back then.

what about Aprilia Habana if youre after that retro look?

the later Vespa's, et4 and the like are simply rebadged Piaggio group scoots, but were pretty good for a commute.

The Gilera Runners are probably about the best used scooter in my opinion, 125 or 180, 2 stroke or 4, they ride well, perform very well, and actually handle more traditionally thanks to a spine type frame rather than two bits of tin pressed together!

Depends what you want though i guess, but if it were me personally, and wanted a bit of retro flavour, i'd be on the lookout for a proper innocenti Lambretta, as big as you can ride.

A lot of folk will argue over the pro's and con's of Vespa v's Lambretta, and my two penneth is that having worked in a Piaggio/Vespa dealership for some years, i can confirm from my own and from the mechanics points of view, the traditional Vespa's were awful!

We didn't like selling them because we knew theyd be back, and the mechanics hated working on them, everything poor quality, badly fitting, and likely to be returned quite soon thereafter!

Jube has a pair of awesome Italjet Dragsters, one pretty stock and the other tuned, very nice, and very quick,

But i don't think he'll part with either of them! :D

This is mine, trouble is my little brother wants to come on every ride out...........

The scooter is a 1990 Honda Helix CN250, a large boot, feet forward seating, very comfortable to ride and good performance with good MPG.
Go on you know you want one........ :D

I had a Yamaha Aerox 100 for messing about on, fab in traffic.
I would agree with Chris though about the Italjet Dragster, especially the 180

I walk to the station, it's less that a mile and only take 10-15 mins...

I meant get rid of the Brera and get a scooter for around town and a bit of fun... Don't need the Brera when I have the 33 sitting there

Scary thought I haven't ridden a bike for 30 years but could buy anything I wanted and ride it tomorrow. How long do you think I'd live???

Well not having ridden anything since the Vespa in 1968 - I was bought a Yamaha XJ 600 five years ago and I modified it and ride it on sunny days!
I also have an FJ1200 engine which I will be putting into a hardtail chop - someday!

Found one I'd like... It's in Italy though!

North West, so might be doable.. how much is importing? Expensive I guess.

I've made my purchase... Italjet Velocifero 1997... She was delivered from Manchester at the weekend and is being stripped today by a local bike garage...

Made a couple of upgrades at the weekend, I had the scooters' engine overhauled and brakes overhauled and have added a "buddy seat" and pillion pegs... I tested it out and was good fun!

Surprisingly fast!
