Well it was that time again
Another great weekend . We went on the Sunday as Rossi was there and he didn't disappoint

we was lucky enough to see him ride back down the hill and up the stairs into goodwood house! I think that's a first

gave a great and typical Rossi interview on the balcony . The crowd went nuts

Cars and bikes amazing as always . But the real let down was no alfa stand this year

not good at all!!

Nice pictures JB, although the random orientation takes a bit of getting used to. I went on Friday and it was a disappointing Alfa turn-out - Scuderia Portello were there with a singular T33/TT/3, which sounded very nice going up the hill, but doesn't come close to matching the thrill of seeing half a dozen T33's all from different eras.

Oh, there was a TZ2 as well...

It wasn't just Alfa though - Alpine were celebrating 60 years of manufacture and I thought I was going to see at least one A310 (even a V6 would do). They only brought a brace of A110s, a Brazilian Interlagos (mildly interesting), a longtail Le Mans car from 1966 and the 1978 Le Mans entry. You would think La Regie Renault could have done better than that!

I was also disappointed by the concours event this year. In fact, with the exception of my friend Sean getting "King" Richard Pettys autograph on a '68 Barracuda sun visor (and seeing the Superbird blatting up the hill), it hasn't been a vintage year, if I'm honest.

I'll find out how my pictures turned out at the weekend

i'll be a lancia owner again soon, kind of am already i guess, just haven't taken delivery of it yet1

never been to goodwood, bit far for a day trip.
also looks like it's got plenty big now, hard to see everything?

do get some cracking stuff there though

For some reason if the photos are large they come out inside down

We stayed in the new forest for a long weekend then drove there in the morning. About a hours drive and two and hour home! Been three years in a row. Love it. Still haven't made it to the rally stage yet SHOCKING I know

really want to camp there . As its party time at night

from the guy a know with the classic bikes . Rossi was having a great time at the Manor House party

Finally got around to uploading some of my snaps...

I've been trying to catch up with this Fezza for years. Is the 312P the best looking sports racer ever?

Mad Max Interceptor, aka Aussie Ford Falcon. The broken headlamp covers make it look like a face

Mirage-BRM. Light levels were very low, so I got creative in Photoshop...

Alfa T33/TT/3 sounded great going up the hill...

...As did this rather excellent Renault 17 rally car...

The 426 c.i. (7 litre) Petty Superbird thunders through...

Mad rotary drift racer...

Andy Rouse Dolly Sprint - I love the way this picture came out. Looks like it was taken 40 years ago!

Black and white works well to suit the period.
I agree, the 312p looks lovely. I also like the BRM, and I admit I wouldn't have known the model if you put it on the "puzzle post"

It's a rare beast and no mistake - only 3 built, one of which was converted to Mirage M3 spec (open spider bodywork). So you won't be tripping over them

I'll get around to posting up the colour pictures eventually...

Thanks Shrew - yes, it was indeed the first proper run for the 'Bird in over 40 years. The clutch was billowing smoke most of the time, and it didn't move particularly fast, but that's a good thing when you are trying to do tracking shots...

The Dodge Daytona and Plymouth Superbird aero package was developed by Chrysler Missiles and Space division, using aerodynamicists more used to designing re-entry warheads for ballistic missiles. And in 1970 they proposed a radical alternative to the space shuttle which would have saved the US taxpayer a lot of money and probably saved lives too, had it been given the green light. Mopars in Spaaaaaaaaaace...

Favourite Martini-liveried 917 Porker, with Gulf car in the background...

First glimpse of the fabled 426 cubic inch "Hemi" V8 - strangled by the mandated 4-barrel carb, unlike the street version (which used 2 x 4-barrels)...

Mr "The King" prepares for his first run up the hill...

This car had line locks on the front wheels, injected red dye onto the rear tyres...

From the days when British touring cars could use just a silhouette - Baby Bertha (SBC V8); the Chimp (Hillman Imp/Chevron B8 chassis) and the amazing V8 DAF, comes this other renegade from the Tricentrol Super Saloon series...

Renault 17 again, this time in colour.

I agree - this one sounded superb, really strong engine. I think there was a brief flirtation with Group 4 rally in the late '70s. A real rarity.

Ah yes, the straps on the windows - no side windows in NASCAR of course, so at 200 mph the air pressure in the back could easily blow the window out!

The Dodge Daytona was the first NASCAR to crack the fabled double-ton, initially on Chrysler's Chelsea (Michigan) proving ground, with one of the Missiles & Space aerodynamicists in the back taking pressure readings!

OK, here's the last few...

I didn't enjoy the Cartier concours much this year - too few concept cars (actually none this year) and too many Citroen DS and pre-war vintage vehicles. Still, the quality was as high as ever - here is the winning entry.

Superb Vignale-bodied Ferrari was one of a small selection of custom coachbuilt Fezzas...

Meanwhile, back at the track, Mr "The King" was heading up the hill...

Here's another boxer engined car from the early '70s...

It's called a Techno, built in Italy around the 312PB engine...

I never managed to get a clear view of the transaxle, but it looked very similar to the Colotti 6-speed used in the Alfa T33 Stradale...

How's this for a perfect pairing - 1970 Chevron B16 with Mazda rotary power!

I love this French diesel record car. Based on the Pininfarina-styled Peugeot 404.

Famous Carrera Panamericana Ferrari 250MM rounds off this selection.

Absolutely agree, on both counts. I never got as far as the rally stage this year, but from past experience there is always a good showing of Delta Integrales (including S4s) Stratos and Lancia 033.

I'm looking forward to doing FoS again next year, this time with the Green Machine in tow!
