OK I bought a Lancia

Post by Kermit »

Hi Guys, I know "what the Hell" I have done

BUT its a Monte and its a 1978 in "powder blue" for less money than a sud !!!!!!!!

Only problem is trying to get any feed back from their site !!! I thought AO was bad since you guys left LOL but they take the biscuit

So does anyone know of a decent "indie" in the gloucester area ? this time its all to do with mechanics LOL - Don't worry the suds still an "on going" project :D

Hi Kev, OK I'll take some pics - just for you LOL
Its the monte consortium that seems to be pretty slow on posting anything
Thanks for the links - Carpet and cambelt is first on the list

And losing a few pounds (or maybe stone) to enable entry into drivers seat LOL

cambelts are a pretty easy one on the twin-cam mate, no special tools needed.
not sure what access is like on the monte though, never done one on those, usually delta's or prismas that i've done.
still got a 1.6 twin-cam cam belt in the shed...... :D
no good to you though

The monte is a lovely car, I'm sure most of us would admit to being happy owning one.

Is it the blue one in the background of the photo above?

Hi All, V6 not sure I'd want to go there - the 75 is far to light for that power let alone the Monte :o
Veesix - she's a lighter blue - not even sure its a Lancia colour !
Just been on the LM consortium and I've got a message coming from their version of Bryan Alexandra so hoping all good news - one off prototype for prince Charles would be OK

Keep you in touch and also get her out in the open to take some pics

you're on the money there lauren, monte was always intended and designed originally for a V6 but lancia got cold feet....

I suppose all that nonsense with the brake balance put them off. I guess the only V6 available to Lancia in the late 70s would have been the Fiat unit - that would have been interesting to get in sideways! Or they could have used the Gamma H4 complete with transaxle...

...On the subject of vee engines, would a Thema 8.32 fit in there I wonder?

Go on, you know you want to

Reason I ask is that the Stratos replicas started off with the Lampredi twin-cam, then graduated to the Alfa V6, and some have been adapted to fit the V8 Fezza, and as the 8.32 is actually out of a 328... I think you can see where this is going!

Re: OK I bought a Lancia

trouble is with the 8.32 engine it lost a lot of the character of the screaming ferrari unit by binning the flatplane crank and using a more standard cross-plane one to make a more "normal" V8 with the even spread of firing sequences rather than the "double 4" that you get with the flat-plane ones
the 8.32 was always very much a watered down ferrari unit, the 2.0 16V turbo was a more powerful and more sensible option...

You're kidding! I never knew that. Clearly Uncle Enzo didn't want Lancia going one better than Ferrari with a Ferrari engine again (Stratos). Flat-plane crank V8s sound utterly glorious!

...And the Alfa boxer doesn't sound half-bad either ;)

OK, change of plan - fit the 3-litre V8!

I have seen a alfa V6 monte AND a Delta turbo monte (not 16V) at Brooklands a few years ago.
Did wonder at the time if this was the right thing to do as there where so few made in RHD.
Says I doing what I'm eventually going to finish doing to the TIX LOL

Ordered the new cambelt kit and oil filter from the monte hospital so I'll get that done first.
Insurance is £83 for 2000 miles so looking good
I know you can now pay monthly for car tax but does this mean you can tax your car monthly not sure? if you can I'll drive her for a while (belly allowing  ) then lock her up till next year as "her in doors" tells me I need to get rid of the 75 and quite frankly that ain't going to happen :D

Asked the missus to buy some batteries for my camera - guess what "she forgot"

Don't quote me on this H , but I think the idea is that you can set up a direct debit with DVLA. Then if you sorn the car, your direct debit is suspended until you re start your tax application. No doubt, the hope is most people forget to sorn so you continue to tax the car even if you are not using it. Renewal is still 12 monthly but I guess in theory you can tax as and when you want as long as it is done on a monthly cycle. The good thing is if you do it online you can almost sort it the day before you need it !!

Not sure about the interior but the last owner said it was re trimmed in original Lancia fabric (except the carpet of course - more like from his house  )

Sorry Kev can't make Mitcar again this year as going on the annual family holiday

Just one question, leaded or unleaded - I know suds were fine for the green stuff but just wanted to check :D

Heard from the bloke who the suds with - looks like he might give me a set of keys to do some work on Sundays - now that would be good news :) :) :) :)

unleaded will be fine mate, alloy head on the twink so hardenned valve seats mean valve seats recession isn't an issue ;)

shame you can't make it with the monte but bound to see it, and you, some time this year again i hope mate

good news on being able to have access to try and get the sud done ;)

O dear - wont be going anywhere at the moment

Think she was bone dry when he dropped her off and now she won't suck up the new fuel I just put in.
CAN ANYONE please remind me how to prime the electric pump - it still makes a noise so hopefully hasn't burn / seized
I'm supposed to take her to the garage tomorrow for the cam belt

Car running again, managed to take the fuel line off from the tank and back feed the fuel.

Now I need camshaft seals and alternator belt so the man can get on with changing the belt

well done mate. glad you got that sorted.

for the camshaft seals i'd recommend using guy croft who has the seals on the shelf. he uses viton seals too, not the standard ones which can harden due to the heat they are subjected to
