Re: Ant Anstead - Master... Bodger?

We're slowly evaluating just what needs doing immediately, ...cambelts (original Alfa marked belts on car) James Crikey! So they really didn't replace the cambelts after all  I really thought that might have been one of the essential service jobs they might have done in the background - the ...

Re: Ant Anstead - Master... Bodger?

The auctioneer mentioned Shrewsbury ..... and I think there was only one bid ?? - in the auction pictures the interior looked really poor, but it looked ok on the telly, also, in the auction details it did say it needed to back to the production company after the auction. I supplied some parts for ...

Ant Anstead - Master... Bodger?

Probably old news to the rest of you, but watching terrestrial telly means that I have only just seen the latest episode of "Ant Anstead - Born Mechanic" on Quest. Tonight's episode (drum roll please) - a 1980 Alfasud! In spite of been in storage for 35 years, the condition of the bodywork...

Weather permitting (although Tom usually guarantees it) would be great to meet up with the Green Machine again and maybe Iain with his 33. Sadly I didn't see either of you on the day - although sadly the weather didn't cooperate this year so we were dodging showers most of the day. I did manage to ...

Actually, even if I can't get the fan controller set up I can still use the override switch

That's why I love this forum - AROC Driver is too partisan and published the full factory blurb, about how the new Stellantis "Large" platform is designed in Italy (I can't remember where the "Small" platform is designed, probably France), and yes, the new Alfa will share this pl...

I had AVO refurbish my rear dampers earlier in the year. I currently have AVO coilover dampers fitted all round on the Nova. I originally had non-rebuildable SPAX dampers and couldn't replace them because SPAX had gone out of business. Now SPAX are back in business and AVO have folded, talk about ba...

Re: The sad End of an Era

I can't help but agree. While brand loyalty is to be commended I cannot think of anything further removed from the original Alfa ethos of driver-focused motoring than an EV bristling with so-called "driver aids" or even full autonomy. Presumably only the vehicle AI will derive any driver s...

Vredesteins would be my choice for a classic, unless you want to consider the very expensive period tyres from the likes of Longstone. Not Chinese, but made in India these days I believe... I have always found the wet weather performance of Vreds to be very good, handy if you use your car all year r...

On a bicycle with twenty eight spoked wheels is the weight of the rider supported by the spokes above or below the hub? Can't wait for Lauren's explanation. 2 years ago almost to the day I wrote this title thread, and now it's true. Give it up Kev, the rest of us already have. Like you Kev I can't see everyone switching to EV. You only have to look at the on-street parking situation in Portsmouth, where you are lucky to find a parking space 3 streets away from your house, to realise that EVs can never replace combustion engines. It would be bad enough even with designated...

Hi Fruity - OK, I have checked my analysis and that shows that I assumed my old final drive was a 4.11, but it looks like that was based purely on deduction from the Haynes manual. I will have to inspect the gearbox itself to be certain. I don't want to get your hopes up, it could be a 3.889 :( Lauren

Hi Fruity - yes, the 4.11 final drive was definitely fitted to other models, 1.2 Ti and 1.3 model Alfasuds, also 1.3 Alfa 33s I believe. I am trying to remember what final drive is fitted in my old Gold Cloverleaf gearbox. I asked Alex Jupe to rebuild my 1.5 Ti box but the speedo drive had corroded ...

Re: TI wheels

It's easy enough to work out: Wheels are 13" diameter, so I convert the tyre width (e.g. 165mm) to inches (divide by 25.4), multiply by 0.7 (70%) to get the sidewall height, multiply by two and add to the wheel diameter to get the circumference (in inches). Or you can convert the wheel diameter...
