My 1980 Alfasud ti

I bought my Sud new from Westune , Horwich on April 1st 1980, so it's just turned thirty five years old. The only major upgrade from the original 1351cc engine is that I found a 1984 Cloverleaf engine in a scrapyard in 1992. I rebuilt it at 82,000, hooked it up to the original gearbox (17.9/1000 in fifth.)The cost for the engine and gearbox was £150 delivered! It's now on 127,0000. In a bodyshell that only weighs 800kg, it's quite nippy.
It is always garaged and rarely smells water unless it's got shampoo conditioner in it.
I also have a ten year old 147 2.0 Lusso and a nine year old 159 2.2 JTS Lusso-both bought new. I'm still waiting for the 159 replacement. We'll see if it fits the bill when it's shown at Arese on the 24th June. Sadly, My wife and I just couldn't find enough attraction to the Mito and Giulietta.

Hi Ben. That's a lovely sud and remarkable that you've owned it since new, you must have really looked after it. Most cars bought new that year were no dount scrapped in the mid to late 80s.

I hope you'll be bringing it to 'Suds in the sun' that Kev's organising near Northampton in june? Boost those series 2 numbers!

Congratulations on that very nice series 2 TI. What makes it even more remarkable is you've owned it since it was new. What is the body colour, is it dark blue or black? Since the series 2 cars were only built between 1978 and 1980 I suppose the survivors must be very scarce. Enjoy the car, but I'm sure you do.

That's fantastic, you must have claim to the longest Sud ownership, and 1 owner, on the entire planet!

As said above, can you make MITCAR "Sud's in the sun" later this year? Would be great to see her. 8-)

Lovely car, but out of interest, what happened to the wheel arch plastic trims?

On yes, I never noticed those were missing. Bet you took 'em off to stop salt/water getting trapped under them didn't you?, save those arches

By the way the big 'sud event, MITCAR, is in August, not June, think the other lads were too polite to correct me, cheers

Thank you all for the complimentary remarks. The reason the wheel arch plastic is missing followed a front wing and n/s rear arch replacement. I just couldn't bring myself to drill holes in new metal, managed to track down a red S1 spoiler and had it sprayed up Nero AR 905(in answer to Alfa_Japan.) I had a windscreen out fettling done some years ago but the rust under the screen rubber has returned in places. I wonder if anyone has managed to get the screen out without ruining it. The garage that did it nearly got it out but it cracked at the last minute. I gather the replacement was a very tight fit. The other priority is the n/s rear window frame. Has anyone fitted the frameless ones in an S2?

When you say frameless rear window, assume you mean using just a rubber?

I have a S2 shell with a rear window fitted with just a rubber surround, it's been in as long as I've known the car which is 15 years.

Hi Ben, (I trust that is your name?)
Do you mean the 1/4 glass off a series 3 car? If they fit and you swap them, don't just scrap the old frames, they could be repaired.
