Twin headlamp wiring

I'm about to fit twin headlamps to my S2 ti, having currently got Super type headlamps.

Does the headlamp body earth via the inner fixing bracket like the Super?

And do the indicators earth to the front bumper via the fixing bolts?

I can’t picture the S2 but on a S3 each of the headlamp units has an earth tag and an earth wire fixes to them

Series 2 has stainless steel bumpers so earths through the bumper, and obviously plastic bumpers need a separate earth.

John,
I can see what look like earth tags on the headlight units.
Do I run these to a communal earth?

Hi, I’m just doing the same on my super.

I know, I know, probably spoiling it by going non-original, but I love the twin headlight look.

Do you know how the wiring is altered?

On the normal lamps switching to high beam turns off the dip beam filament and turns on the high beam.

I’m assuming with the twin headlights the outers should stay on all the time with the inners going on and off with high beam.

Do you need a different relay, or to swap any wires around?

I'm doing the same here.
But my loom came from a scrap car.........which I think was a ti ...........? John?

Indicators and side lights working ok.

Main beam comes on the inners when I hear the clunk of the relay.

But no dipped headlights on when either on dipped or main beam!

That is strange!

I don’t have any loom at all, I was going to make a little adapter loom to plug into the standard 4 pin connector on the inner wings.

I was hoping it would be a simple relay or wire pin swap.

I understand wiring while I’m doing it but never had much luck understanding Haynes diagrams.

Someone told me a while ago that the column switches were different for single and twin headlight models, - I couldn't think why they would be .... but perhaps as the twin headlight cars have all headlight on when on main beam, but single headlight cars only have the main beam filament lit when on main beam, the switch wiring is different ???

Have you got a twin headlight set of column switches!

Also my main beam only seems to come on intermittently. I was suspecting the 5 pin relay? Which is original and old.

Contacts are 30, 56, 56a, F, S .

Is there a modern replacement?

Poor earth on the headlamp relay was causing the problem.

Mike who worked in Cubleys of Ainsdale parts dept still has the microfiches.

He tells me the column switches and headlamp relay are the same for single and twin headlight S1 and S2.

My dipped headlights go off when switching to main beam.

Yes mine too, but I expected them to as I haven’t adjusted any wiring, just plugged them into the existing sockets.

I had a quick look at the Haynes wiring diagram and looks like there’s an additional relay on Ti models.

I need to look at the existing relay setup, I’m sure there’s a work around, but I’m wondering if you can add a bypass to the high beam latching relay so the dip beam stays always on.

I very rarely use mine in the dark so I’m ok with the lights swapping over going to high beam, but would be nice to have them working like the factory setup.

Pretty sure my loom is from a ti.
It has 5 relays.
3 under the fusebox
2 under the coolant res.
