Hi/Lo beam switching

Hi all.
Simple question, does the S3 Sprint headlamp plastic stalk switch operate in the same way as the earlier S1/S2 metal stalk switch. My S2 car has been retrofitted with S3 switch but I want to put it back to original. I "think" someone has messed with the headlamp wiring & put a non latching relay in a spare slot in the fusebox.

AOG

The later chrome bumper sprints had the S3 switch from new so it may not have been retrofitted.
I had a Y registered sprint and that had the S3 switch (originally the switch was brown plastic rather than black plastic like the saloon & Ti models)
I think the only extra thing that gave you was intermittent windscreen wipe so see if you have the relay for intermittent wipe fitted.

Ah ha! So I have a brown plastic switch & there's a timer relay on the l/h scuttle. My car is a Y reg which fits in with what you say. Pity, the metal stalk switch is much neater. I presume the hi/low beam switching is the same (pull for high beam, pull again for low beam with h'lamps turned on, pull to flash with h'lamps turned off).

I think that to select high beam you press the end of the stalk and the button pops out
To flash them you pull the stalk back

Had the fusebox apart today. Memory is waking up....my X reg Sprint had the metal stalk switch & all the headlamp switching was done by relays in the f/b. A few years later I had a Y reg Sud GC, the relays were gone, the headlamp switching was directly on the stalk switch, a really dumb idea. Sure enough I was plunged into darkness on several occasions because the terminals on the switch assy had worked loose (tubular rivets through plastic, great idea). I ended up soldering all the terminals. It seems my resurrection Sprint has the same set up
I may modify by installing relays to manage the power to the headlamps, plenty of unused slots in the fusebox!
