Dumb question perhaps ……

My BMW’s have always had specific under bonnet +ve and -ve posts for jump starting or battery charging, never had to go anywhere the battery.

It’s a long time since I had to charge a battery direct on a modern car with loads of electronic goodies. I have an intelligent charger from Halfords, so can I just connect it to the +ve and -ve direct on the battery just like I use to do on my old cars?

I’d rather not disconnect either lead, and if it’s stop/start is there anything extra to worry about.

It’s a Vauxhall Adam and there is zilch in the handbook or online.

Thats what I do on our 2013 Mazda 2.

I presume its just the same as the alternator charging the battery.

I had a look in our Fiat 500 handbook, it reminded me I had previously charged the battery on the Giulietta with stop start and there’s a sensor clipped on the battery that comes off, and then just connect the charger direct to battery without removing leads.

For non stop start it says to remove the negative lead, I suppose it’s a safety measure so nothing on the car is live.

I’ve always done same as you in the past, and as above the beemers you just connect to the posts under the bonnet.
