Sud won't start or stop

Well I've nearly got the Sud completely back together other than 2 little problems: - :(

1. It won't start.

2. It won't stop

Starter motor just clicks.

Can't get the brakes to bleed at all.

Any ideas anybody?

Could the battery be flat hence the ticking starter? Usually a problem that shows as dim dashboard lights as well...

Hi Dave - the click from the starter sounds like it could be just the solenoid kicking in. This operates the yoke that engages the pinion onto the starter ring gear, but also makes the heavy current connection to the starter motor itself by shorting together the two studs at the end of the solenoid body. If the battery is fully charged, check the engine earth strap and make sure that none of the clamp connections are corroded. Hopefully that should kick the starter into life!

As for the brakes, if there is a large air lock in the system (from replacing parts or fluid for instance) it can sometimes take some time to get the fluid back into the master cylinder. I remember I had to pump my clutch pedal a lot to prime the cylinder before I was able to bleed the slave cylinder. perhaps the same thing has happened with your brake circuit?

Good luck, sounds like you are on the home straight at any rate 8-)

Thanks Lauren

I have charged the battery and it is now ok.

I replaced both front calipers but cant even bleed them using a vacuum kit that I got yesterday.

Did manage to get some fluid out of the clutch though but it is still weird. It is as though the pedal only goes half way down.

I connected an earth directly to the battery and to the starter motor but that made no difference.

Sounds like the pinion is jammed.

Will have another go tomorrow!

Regarding your brakes, its sometimes worth looking at your brake fluid reservoir tank.

It could be clogged and doesnt allow the fluid to run through in the master cylinders

About the starting issue, I believe its a stuck starter as well.
Especially if you washed it and left it there for some time.

Nothing serious I suspect, just needs a bit of fiddling around :)
