Alfasud fuel tank

Good evening, has anyone got a decent Sud fuel tank they don't need or know where to source one? Mine is 40 years old and its pretty knackered. I've tried various methods of repair though I think it's time for a new one.

A version is available on Fleabag from Germany . it’s for a later injected 33 but can be modified to fit a Sud . I want one but refuse to pay the 300 squid they are now asking
A few CAF members wisely bought them when they were a more sensible 90 squid.

I think £300 is a bit excessive, shame no one has found one from another car that fits in the space under the car. I'll make some calls to the obvious alfasud breakers tomorrow

I bought one when they first became available at a sensible price and before the pound dropped sharply after the Brexit vote. I can vouch for the quality if you can't find a cheaper replacement and its probably made of a better quality metal than the original.

Since we have a lot of knowledgeable people on CAF I was wondering whether we could somehow get our own fuel tanks made. Perhaps a specialist fabricators could copy an existing tank and do a discount for a bulk order? Where would we start?

That’s great idea Richard . As with all these things it come down to price. The expense would be in the tooling and with a tank being quite big the tooling would also be quite big . However once that exists running a batch off would certainly be a viable option. I’d start by gauging the interest level then we could maybe approach a tank manufacturer to see if they’d be interested in undertaking what would be for them be a small batch . Another option would be to find a specialist injection moulder as the tank needn’t be steel . Most modern tanks are indeed plastic . Just a thought .

Maybe get the German guy to come down in price for a bulk buy?
He was selling them at £90 ish a year ago, and seemingly making a profit.

I fitted one to my S2 sud with no problems.

Good idea Dave . If you’ve dealt with them before. would you like to make enquiries on behalf of the forum ? And maybe ask about qtys required to secure a decent group buy price .
You could also ask about deleting the return pipe near the sender unit
Lou.

Tell him his new price is “nicht gut. und es bringt viele Leute davon ab, seine besten Kraftstofftanks zu kaufenicht”
Or
“no good. and it is putting lots of people off buying his most excellent fuel tanks”

Got a reply eventually from Patrick at ATP

They are advertising Alfa 33 fuel tanks on ebay for £292.99 incl delivery....these will fit a sud or sprint ok...I did it last year.

I suggested forum members might want 5 tanks in a group buy.....and asked him for a price.
Result is he will do 5 for 120 euros each incl delivery to UK.

I've already got mine!
Are there 5 members out there who want one?!

Cheers
Dave

Thanks for you efforts Dave. That’s a more sensible price . Let’s see what interest we can get.

That's a cracking discount Dave, well done.
All you Sud/Sprint/33 guys ought to be taking advantage of that offer. Even if you don't think you need one now it's a good stock item at that price, which you'd be hard pressed to lose on if you wanted to sell on again!

This is only valid for shipment to the UK I suppose? In case 1 piece shipment to the Netherlands in group buy is possible for the same price I'm in.

P.S. Too bad they don't make the version for the Sud without the additional tube although for their production complexity I can understand.

They are sticking to their figure of 120 euros per tank incl delivery, for a total of 5 tanks.
Still havn't got 5 forum members interested yet!

Good morning, great work though I bought a tank from Peter the Alfasud Spares man which is in my 5M. Otherwise I'd be first in the queue for a new tank. I'm going to keep the old one as despite being old it could still be saved.

I'll contact ATP on Monday.
Their ebay ad says they have 8 tanks available.
