Hi brussels,

Simply contact "thor101" on the Dutch Alfa Romeo owners club forum. He has so many Sprint parts available you'll be able to purchase almost anything you desire.

Both my rear winder mechanisms were solid with rust but it was all corrosion and crap that had been washed in by rain and rust from the buckets that the windows wind down into. I was going to throw them out but as I had plenty of other work to do on the car I cleaned them out and after soaking in releasing fluid over a few months I was able to free them up. The mechanism itself is made of good material ( well mine was ) and is worth trying to repair, in my opinion.

When I reinstall the mechanisms should I stuff the things full of grease? I’ve got some cv joint grease, would this be ok or I have a spray silicone grease.

Stuffed mine with general purpose grease which I presume is water proof enough ?

Most greases will do the job, nice thick bearing/general purpose grease will be perfect.
Very important though to make sure the drain pipe is clear and in good order, both the plastic pipe and the drain on the "bucket" itself. This will avoid a repeat and worse still, a sill full of rainwater!
I always used to check mine when washing the car, let water run down the window and make sure it comes out of the pipe in front of the rear wheel.
Water will always get in, just make sure it can get out again!

Great, will do. On one side the bit to fit the pipe to rusted off! will need to try and fashion something out of fiber glass. Was thinking i could line the bucket and poke some through to make the pipe fitting.

Rust flakes, bits of leaves etc all bunch up near the drain pipe and block it up which causes it to be constantly damp, with inevitable results!

As long as whatever you make is watertight that's the key, some fibre-glass isn't a bad idea as it won't rust at least!

One last question, the mechanisms had some kind of spongey gasket covering half of the mech.

Should I replace this, if so any ideas with what or should I leave it off? Seems to me that it just traps water.
