Im making a push this summer to get my sud finished and on the road, or at least driving and stopping under its own power!

I have owned the car since 2000, I bought it for £250 quid, the previous owner had been told the alternator needed replacing and decided to off load it as spares or repairs.. Once I fixed the charging issues, it was my daily drive for a couple of years.

Back in 2007, it had a very good respray, new rear arches, fibre glass front wings and bonnet and some other mods I made, then I rebuilt the 16V engine, installed that with megajolt / ford EDIS ignition and twin 40's.
Outboard brakes at the front mean I'm without a handbrake, which is actually the part I'm pressing on with now.
I have a new rear axle to build up, and will try my luck using spot callipers on the rear.

Its been posted on the other alfa owners forum before, but I thought this forum is probably the best place for Sud's

I'm lucky i can do all the work my self - apart from the paint job - but everything else I have fuddled and taught myself through it

I remember your car very well mate from when I started doing my Sud, cars like yours and Daves' were an inspiration to me.....can't believe you've not yet finished it though! Lol. There are others that still haven't though, are you listening Daz??

Hi Kev, yup it's been a while since I posted it on the old forum.. but I have to say your work inspired me mate.


Since starting the sud, there's been a house move and following renovation, and I became a dad !
I now have a little apprentice - I figure by the time she's about 5 or 6, she should be a wizz with spanners

Just did a quick bit tonight, I cleaned up the bearing surfaces of the rear stub axles, I used some wd40 and 1000 wet/dry. The new bearing inner races are a nice fit, no wear showing on the stub axle. I have seen these wear when the bearing inner race spins or frets away on them. The area that the grease seals run on are pitted, need to think about what to do with that.

Then cleaned up the threads for the hub nut, I used my old trusty thread file.. best thing I ever bought from the snapon van !
The hub nut threads are often bruised if the stake nut isn't properly released.
The hub nuts are M16*1.5mm. I googled that and they seem to be easy enough to find for future stock... I was actually thinking of getting castle nuts, drilling the nose of the stub to take a split pin and go down that road. Makes it a bit easier to service/adjust the bearing.
Wheel bearing kit is FBK150, again easy to find online.

Using a castellated nut is a great idea, staking them in every time leaves for only so many uses before it gets too weak.

That's a lovely clean car Lib.

Mine is virtually the same spec. and is off to be painted (Black) on March 10th.
If it comes out anywhere near as good as yours I'll be a very happy person.

I've had mine 5 years and still haven't finished it.
Just need to save up some more penny's before I get it painted.
