Gear linkage

Today, just a mile from work the gear selector rod came out of the flexible joint of the gear box of the 33, Grrr :x , leaving me in third to get to the car park. Up hill start from the car park barrier, that made the clutch smell a little.
So once there and after letting the exhaust cool I jacked her up to see what had happened. It seemed that the circlip must have broken off letting the rod pop out. Managed to get it back on and put a couple of very thin cycle brake circlips in with a spacing washer and a couple of cable ties for good luck.
Good job it happened today and not on the way to Italy.
Problem is I now need to get a permanent fix before the Italy trip at the end of August and looking on the service manual I down loaded it seems I need an anti vibration bush, a couple of specific washers and the proper circlip to fix it. The circlip on page 1374 of the manual looks almost square???? Does anyone know where I can obtain such a repair kit? only had a quick look on the bay tonight and on Eper (not letting me on the page to obtain part numbers Grrr again) so a little stuck at the moment.
Or is it possible to fix with the correct size washers and a non specific circlip (looks like it has to be quiet strong and reasonably sized to hold the washer)
Help please.

Drill the bottom of the shaft where the circlip goes, insert split pin and forget about it forever.

Best modification I ever did

One other possibility of modification is this:
http://alfaimola.free.fr/technique/tran ... index.html

About spares:
- rubber bush for alfa 33 1988-89 is 60502642 (about 38mm x 19mm OD x 12mm ID)
- rubber bush for alfa 33 1990-94 is 60524873 (about 35mm x 19mm OD x 12mm ID)
- (generic washer of correct size)
- circlip I think is this one:
http://www.ebay.it/itm/FIAT-LANCIA-FERM ... 27d2d0d839

similar one, less expensive, not sure if same:

http://www.ebay.it/itm/FERMO-FERMAGLIO- ... 4198749226

http://www.ebay.it/itm/FERMO-FERMAGLIO- ... 2812e61ccf

In generel, this circlip is used also on the brake / friction pedal on cars of many brand (smart, fiat, etc),
sometimes you can find also ones more strong than original (but best is do some upgrade-modification
to the system)

Thanks guys. I will concider the options but drilling and split pin might be the answer long term. For the price the eBay links seem an obvious solution so will look to get one or two sorted.
I did find a complete repair kit from a German company, that had a UK phone line so will give the a call tomorrow as it would be good to get the rubber bush too.
Thanks again will keep you posted.

Just been able to get on Eper and found this with part numbers.

http://eper.fiatforum.com/eper/navi?MOD ... &DRW_NUM=2

Quick search on Ebay returned this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TAMPONE-E-FER ... R#shpCntId
Do you think it will do the job as it says 33 but the image is sud, part numbers look to be okay though.
£20 inc postage for a clip and rubber ouch but if that's my best option then that may have to be the case hopefully here in time to fix it up. Don't really have the time for the permanent fixes at the moment but will possibly get it sorted after returning from Italy.

So repair kit of rubber and clip came the other day, won from eBay seller in Italy for 17 euros.

So back up on the ramps she went.

Bit of a struggle getting the rod back with the new rubber fitted, found that the gear lever pushed and held to the left in the car gave just enough clearance for the rod in the tunnel to pop back into place.

Then spacers and clip on and all done. Simples.

A quick run out tomorrow then it will be Italian GP trip.
Hopefully no last minute glitches.

good work mate, was wondering how you'd got on.
is different to a sud one, couldn't recall how but now seeing the pix its' clear.
hope it solves the problems, and maybe 2nd will go in every time rather than 4th :D
