Oil?

This thorny one.

In my 1400 16V with hydraulic tappets i have used Valvoline VR-1 20W50 since it was built (recommended by AHM but it was first built with solid tappets)

As I now have hydraulic tappets its been suggested that this might be allowing the hydraulics to pump up at higher revs as the standard specified is 10W40 for the 16V.

So what do people think?

What do people use in their 16V's ?

Valvoline dont do a 10W40 VR-1. I have seen a 5W50 or a 10W60. Would either of these be worth trying?

Castrol Magnatec has been recommended. Are there any other recommendations?

Thanks rsfruitbat

We've used Joe Gibbs Driven for the last few years - it's excellent. Obviously we don't use hydraulic tappets so it would probably be best to discuss with the Joe Gibbs importer, Anglo American Oils - http://www.aaoil.co.uk/index.php

0w40 - but do talk to them - lots of factors went into their recommendation. On that point, perhaps also direct your enquiry to the Opie Oils guy in the Traders section - he's posted several times.

I use castrol edge 10/60, which previously was Castrol RS 10/60. However mines mechanical not hydraulic.
