Porsche 968

Wasn't sure where to post this! And sorry not Alfa related! Has anyone driven, or have experience of a 968? They don't really do it for me, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. Some reckon better than the 911 of the time if you discount the kudos!

Anyway I've been offered one that needs a bit of work, but at what appears to be on face value a really good price. I need to be persuaded one way or the other as I am solidly sat on the fence at the moment!

Any comments?

By the time my brother got his 911 stolen he was relived to be rid of it.

People kept stealing wing mirrors that cost £1000 each, and when they break them off it damages the car not the mirror.

He had more hassle than fun.

Then he bought a 968 and used it as an every day car in central London, and though he had to sell it to buy a family car he would have another very

happily. Brother in law is now restoring one and some of it is complex, just check out the rear suspension,

but there is a good second hand scrap yard for them up north. Look for the micro blistering of the bodywork and esp rot around the fuel tank and filler .

Hope that helps. Good luck. :D

I'd have one. Not sure you could say it's better than a 911 but infinitely better than a 944

As ever, prices have been rising, especially for the club sport.

Always seemed to be rated very well in reviews etc. So if it's cheap it could be worth a go.

Just looked at those listed on pistonheads. I'd say in general prices are 50% more than when I looked at them 2 years ago, club sport 100% increase and some ridiculous dealer prices at the top end.

Thanks for the replies guys, I haven't seen it yet, but the story is as follows (tbc):

It's a two owner car 92 - 2004 one owner full Porsche service history Seller bought it in 2004 and full 'specialist' service history since. He spent over 4K in 2012 on an engine 'rebuild' at just under 100,000 miles and Drove it for another year and about 1000 miles.

In 2013 he took it off the road as his kids were too big for the back seats, he intended to do some work to a rear arch that was bubbling and a bit of paintwork. He never got round to it and it's sat on the drive deteriorating. He turned the engine over frequently until a year ago when the immobiliser stopped working. It is now more pink than red apparently!

Won't go into much detail on price but well under £5k
