Just looked at the Rover web site which has a clear explanation and it looks like you take the paperwork to change it to a historic tax class to a

post office, and they just change it over. A refund comes to you if your already taxed.. :D

Tax free... Lovely, saves not being able to use it on the odd nice day towards the end of the year when I'm to tight to tax it..

Doesn't tax exemption go from the vehicles build date if it can be proved? otherwise just the registration date?

Your right Sud 145, MPK 607P was actually manufactured on the 17th Feb 1976 according to the Alfa Romeo archives..

I thought i read on the .Gov site that the car would only become tax free from the January after the car was 40 years old. I have one that was registered Nov 76 and one in 77(cant remember the month).

Thanks for the info guys, seems anything registered before 7th Jan will be tax exempt as it can be assumed it was built before dec 31st. This is good new for the white sud as it was registered on 01/01/1978 i thought it may have to wait an extra year!

Just been to the post office as last week I taxed my 105 and then realised it was now eligible to be in the historic tax class.

They only needed the V5 filled in. One refund on its way ! Very rare you get a refund that easily. :D

Thanks York Sud for posting that and nudging my memory.

Thanks guys, I read this and was confused but things are making sense now,as, on Monday, I came home from work and had a letter from DVLA saying "don't forget to tax your new car" and it contains another V5c for the Sud ( I now have four of them !!). So guess where I am going tomorrow morning? What I didn't get was surely it was eligible in April when I re-taxed it ? But I did pay for it.
I will keep you posted if I get a refund. :D

It seems like you have to do your own homework DVLA don't like to hand out freebies.

Thanks James and all you others who kick started this chat.
Popped around to the Post office this morning and the Sud is officially Historic now.
The new V5c I received in the post was signed and has been sent off to DVLA and I will get a new one sent along with a refund of four months of paid duty.
So she is now good to go all year around weather permitting. :D
Cheers
Keith.

How do I find out the date of manufacture of my car?

Mine was declared as built in 77 when imported from italy in the early 90's but I don't have any of the original Italian paperwork.

It says declared 77 on the v5 but no date.

Dead easy to find your Suds born-date just forward the details to Marco Fazio at Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo. Job's a goodun.

Just found this on the other thread and if you highlight and right click Marco's details it gives you an address to email (Google search) so I have tried as well.
Looks like he may come to work Monday to a full "in" tray from the UK.
Hope this is correct, thanks Sud 145 (Tony?)

in order to improve our services, we’re rearranging the archives at the Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo (Arese). For this reason, the researches of car registry information are currently suspended.

In the next few months, the service will be reactivated with a new dedicated website.

We apologize for this temporary inconvenience.

Best regards

SNAP !! :D
