I'm ( just ) old enough to remember this one the first time round. I think I might have cried!

Yes all too clearly! :o

My late Grandfather owned an identical car in Giallo Pozzuoli (AR127) at the time and was always being asked if it was his car that had fallen off a cliff as it was very distinctive and unusual colour, even in 1980.

I was given the car when he passed away in 1987 and have owned it ever since. It is currently being restored after 25 years in storage.

I believe my car is the only original condition right hand drive Super left in this rare colour. There is one in New Zealand used for club racing, but I am not certain that AR127 is its original colour. There are two left hand drive AR127 Supers in existence one in Denmark and one in Germany, but both are quite heavily modified.

The factory only offered the colour in export markets from late 1977 until mid 1979. It was used on the Super 1.3/1.5, the S2 Ti, Sprint 1.5 and Giardinetta.

Very few 4 doors were sold in this colour. My Grandfather got his to factory order because my late Grandmother who was an artist often visited the Amalfi Coast on painting trips and loved the bright colours that predominated in that part of the world. She was a bit eccentric really and quite happy to be seen in a bright yellow car.

I have always been luke-warm  about the colour but now that it is so rare cannot really change it.

Well I think it looks great, suits it just fine, your Grandmother was correct. An artists eye and all that.

Funny, she would never have guessed it would matter if it was an original colour.

Sam, the car looks splendid in that colour. When was the photo taken. It looks mint !!
What a lovely story and history for you and the Sud.
I think with all the restos on the go at the moment on here, in a year or two we could set a new collective collection at a meet somewhere.
Last year the MITCAR meet got a good turn out, but we all know of cars that couldn't make it or were not finished.
When do you think yours will be back on the road?
Looking forward to seeing it. 8-)

p.s I do remember that advert as well. I had an orange 5M with blue interior, not a Super.

What a great looking car Sam.
Would it be ready in time for National Alfa Day do you think? A new collection for this year is already being organised as a feature at NAD.

Thanks for the compliment Kegsti66!

Yes - it looks great on the outside (pic was taken in 2014) and is generally very sound, but had some rather untidy repairs to the A pillars and rear sill ends that were done by someone in Birmingham for my Grandfather in the mid 1980's. Also, because I "restored" it back in 1990 on a very limited student budget it is not very well colour matched - original paint on roof, bonnet and boot lid, but re painted in acrylic 2 pack everywhere else.

It has only got 29K miles on the clock and has mint interior and exterior trim. It was supplied new by Mario Deliotti in Birmingham, hence the "XOH" prefix on the no. plate. It still has all the original supplying dealer stickers and the original rear no. plate with the dealer name + all handbooks, service records, MOT's. It is a real time warp car all in all.

All the body shell issues are now being sorted properly and the underfloor has been completely cleaned off to remove factory PVC underseal and the Dinotrol coating that was sprayed over it in 1978 when it was rust proofed when new. I think the Dinotrol is what saved it really, plus the low miles recorded.

Other issues I am resolving are the suspension and brakes which are surface rusty/seized up from long storage and many rubber bushes and seals which need replacing after 38 years. Many parts are currently being re plated and media blasted/powder coated by a company I was recommended to in Iver, Bucks.

I am working to restore it properly to the best standard I can achieve as I think it deserves it. Hopefully it will look nearly as fab as your Ti sometime in 2017 when I get it finished!

I plan to start a CAF thread soon, as the project has made a lot of progress in the past couple of months and there is now something worth talking about.

We are aiming to get it ready for a complete repaint later this year in AR127 and to reassemble it in early 2017 if all goes to plan. Hopefully, it will be back on the road by late Spring 2017.
