SUD1P's Big Day Out

Today was the first time since I bought SUD1P 8 months ago that I took her on a proper road trip. When I bought her from Just Suds she was a project with no engine and pretty much in bits.
8 Months later and after a full respray, engine installation and some complications with taxing the car, I was able to take to the road. I headed to see John at Just Suds for some spares.
My daily car is a GTV V6 so it took some getting used to the heavy steering and wind noise of the Sud (on the motorway) but it's more than capable of coping with modern traffic conditions.
My favourite part of the day was a drive home down country lanes, window down, road clear, exhaust rasping....makes it all worth while! I'm sure fellow CAF members know what I mean!

Thanks. The test drive revealed a few more items for the 'to do' list... a humming noise from the near side front. Got the car on a ramp and spinning each front wheel demonstrated one vastly noiser than the other..needs an 'output shaft bearing'. Cigarette lighter rotten (needed for sat nav). Sorted that out but wiring for bulbs entangled in heater controls and bulbs both blown...'quick job' more usual hour! Wouldn't be as much fun without these tasks..

Spent another couple of days doing jobs on SUD 1P with my Dad. Bought these from John at Justsuds yesterday and fitted them today. Think John has more wheel inserts of anyone needs them. Also fitted a pair of nos strut top mountings as the old ones seemed rough with excess play.
The jobs on the house didn't get done though, doh!

Makes restoring a Sud expensive, so glad to get these as they make the car look complete

Despite the glum weather I wheeled the Sud out so I could do some jobs, mainly the tracking. She was toeing-out a little so once that was sorted I took the opportunity to fit grommets where missing and also fit a weather guard which was good timing as the journey home saw a little rain. Nice to not think about buying Christmas presents for a while!

Are they factory arch guards you fitted or have you made them?
They look useful.

I was glad to get the guard fitted because it protects the back of the headlights and horn etc from the elements. Yes, they're original Alfa, I cleaned off years of waxoyl, road detritus and the rest to make it look better before I re-fitted it. I think they were fitted on the series III cars from new.

Thanks Colin, next job is to fit the missing engine lifting brackets... if it's sunny it'll give me an excuse to get her out of the garage again.
