Often dig out Cocteau Twins for a soak in the bath.
Liz Fraiser also with This Mortal Coil . Song to the Siren.
Bauhaus, I think, were from my home town Lauren. When ever I hear "she's in parties" it reminds me of the first night my brother got his first car and that was playing when he lost control and we span across the road and nearly ended up in a ditch.

Lightweight
Actually I don't remember ending up in a ditch either, although I did manage a 180 degree half-spin which left the car parallel parked on the pavement next to a brick wall. My passenger was suitably impressed/terrified.
I could never hear the stereo at speeds above 15 mph because of the din from the Peco exhaust system...

No need to apologise, musical taste is a subjective thing!
Reminds me I'm going to have to go through my road movie collection again. Actually, I've already started, watched Radio On at the weekend, now that is depressing!

Bowie obviously. R.I.P. Bit of a fan in the day.

Love live versions.
What's your favourite Bowie track?

Too many to choose one, but do like "Wild is the wind" as a not the immediate choice.
Did anyone hear Rick Wakeman's live "Life on Mars" piano tribute last night on Radio 2 last night ?

and thanks to that reminder kev, so am i! lol!
i recall seeing them do Back in the Tall grass on Jool's Hootenanny, and wasn't sure what to make of them, a very, err, unique performance, which is bloody good these days amongst the plethora of crap!
but playing the rest of the album now, and it seals the deal, Brilliant!
i can hear why you're fond of them kev, the keyboard, nice bass, an unusual vocal, and a slightly odd mix of characters and lyrics, a retro feel to some of it, and definitely not a million miles from Mr Newman and NiN, all good.

We are a strange lot !!
I thought the same when they did "Seasons (waiting on you)" on Jools.
Can't put the link up, sorry

Thought the band looked a cool looking bunch of odd dudes.

your right about the synth and melodic nature of some of the tracks being a very 80's sound, strange vocals and a tad enthusiastic performance only adds to the appeal. andy mcclusky of OMD (my all time fav band?) used to go a bit bonkers on stage too...
this one off the on the water album is just a real dreamy one, very 80's, reminds me of kraftwerk in a lot of ways
doesn't hurt in the slightest that they are as far from a manufactured simon cowell type band as it gets

'tis true enough Keithy
now, on that subject....joy division or new order?
I do like both, well you would wouldn't you! some of the less mainstream new order stuff is right up there, power corruption & lies is amongst the cd's in the car at the moment...

"Atmosphere".
A sad, tortured mind.
Oh dear, this is getting heavy Kev

Joy Division would be my choice (although I do like the instrumental section in New Order's seminal Blue Monday), Unknown Pleasures would be the album. I never got into JD when they were current, but some of their stuff does sound good today (like the open chord guitar work in Transmission). And unlike me, just dreaming about building a Trancendent 2000 mono synth, Bernie actually went and did it... and found it was rubbish
You're right Keith, this is getting heavy... shall I lighten the tone with some Armenian death lamentations, courtesy of Herbst9...?

How can anyone with ears NOT like Blue Monday?
Even if your preferred genre is very different, as was Blue Monday to much else that the band did previously and since, it is simply one of those standards and anthems that manages to span so many tastes and years.
If i could still (which means i can't

) i would love to stick the original full 12" single on a technic 1210 deck, and ramp it up!
Awesome!

Wasn't familiar with these, so I gave them a search........... Ooohh ! that is deep Lauren.
At first I thought it started off a bit like Lisa Gerrard / Dead Can Dance, but the more I heard I realised not quite.
Shrew, it has to be the original "Blue Monday" not the later re-mix

me too, although it's been played many many times
seem to recall I've another 12" disc of blue Monday that was an alternative, mainly instrumental?
just for a change of scene and to show i'm not too fussed on which genre it comes from if I like it, heard this on the radio last night from a kate bush album i'v not played for years, probably still won't as I think it's on cassette
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVdWaHrU2t4
then today on the way back from Richards' I had a blink182 cd on....told you I like a diveres range of stuff.....this one is as close to manufactured pop as I tend to like, but for me it's just a great track...

That sounds like the Extended 12" mix, which was the regular single, broken up a bit, and a lengthy instrumental mid section?
a mate of mine had that and it was quite coveted at the time!
old'uns are the best as they say eh!

Was that the Arthur Baker remix? That got a lot of airplay, back in the day!
Because I'm old skool, I kept my Hitachi direct drive turntable and Pioneer tuner/amp. I know what they say about direct drive not being a patch on a rubber band, but when your record collection consists mainly of punk, post-punk and classic electronica, a bit of wow and flutter isn't going to be noticed!
Herbst9 The Gods are Small Birds, but I am the Falcon is monopolising my DVD drive at the moment. Far out Son of a Lung by FSOL on the turntable.
For some reason, Radio 1 doesn't do it for me any more

wonder if I've actually still got it now? Probably loaned it out to a mate back in the day...bugger
did find a couple of 10" tears for fears records though, forgot i'd got those.
