when a toddler i was subjected to elvis & glenn campbell.....but i survived :D

got my own taste of the future listening to kraftwerk in the early 80's when i was teen, how futuristic did this stuff sound back then? from another worold! i couldn't get enough.

still love it.

well?

you're full of surprises mate you! :D

I've always known your music taste was diverse, but didn't realise it was quite that far reaching :P

I was mental into hip hop and rap back in the day, nowadays i use it to explain the early onset of baldness,

It was all the headspins on lino!

I tell you what, the first thing you'll need for your new unit is gonna have to be a capable sound system, hopefully a bit of DAB or online channels,

you can't beat it for days when you just want to itch and old scratch or just fancy the same thing all day long, no messing about.

I use TuneIn and Internet Radio, and they have every obscure genre you can fancy or remember, its awesome!

Hmm, tricky one this. I like the punk edginess of early Tubeway Army, but what I like more is Numan's dystopian vision on Replicas and the Pleasure Principle (Cars in particular, obviously). The dark side of the Moog!

OK, howabout Basement Jaxx for a random Numan sample?

https://youtu.be/5rAOyh7YmEc

Can't decide which version I like best!

Lauren

PS - my favourite 1980s electronica is still John Foxx's Metamatic - Ballardian is the word!

numan has had a lot of influence and been sampled by many artists lauren as you say, from nine inch nails to the sugababes!
a lot of US hip hop guys attribute the betas to numan

Very true, and i think the best thing about sampling, occasionally, is that it sometimes keeps the original alive longer than it would have been naturally, and if it was good in the first place, i'm more than happy for the first artist to continue to earn from it too.

It would seem appropriate that i mention some of my favourite electronic artist of the past. Being born in 71, the golden era of electro, and hip hop were soon in my lugholes, and although of course no parent could see any talent in there whatsoever, here are a couple of clips of two of my favourite tunes of the time,

and look out of me at around 2.11 to 2.17!

and to prove all that "pushy button" music can be done live, by talented folk

and just for fun, one of the most sampled beats and breaks of all time, absolutely fantastic :P

i'm sure i'm too young for this really, but Grandmaster Flash got his hands on it and it was on one of my Electro albums i think, and i just adore it and everything it spawned

I like your style!

I remember seeing Herbie Hancock on The Tube, with a set of mechanical dancing legs made by some automaton constructor... clearly made an impression!

And as for GMFATF5, well, it's like a jungle sometimes, ahuh huh huh...

You old "new romantic" kev!

Back to your mispent youth with that musical era I'm sure.

Ive gone forwards and backwards with just one band recently, re-fascinated with the absolute cream to come from the Seattle grunge scene, Soundgarden.

They had a new album out this year, which i bought of course, but it prompted me to replace their back catalogue again, some of which is remastered too.

My original cd's were either partly missing or jumping thanks to a careless guitar learning teenage son!

But at least he's got taste, and now has his own copies of some of it.

Nirvana can sling their hook, no-one made a noise quite like Soundgarden!

And the spin off band Audioslave, made up of Soundgarden front man Chris Cornell and the remains of the singerless Rage Against the Machine, is similarly brilliant!

A lot like your favourite Newman and Nine Inch Nails kev, they work together as if they always were! :P

Come on Shrew, put the link up to "Cochise" or "Show me how to live".
Great videos that go hand in hand with the music. 8-) 8-)
I can not work out how to put the links on
Turn it up to eleven :D

Think I will dig out the "Vanishing Point" DVD .

or

or a classic massive attack track with liz frazer (of Cocteau twins) on vocals

I was more into early Cocteaus stuff like Garlands (loved Robin Guthrie's screaming guitar counterpoint to Liz Frazers vocal), but I did see them on the Bluebeard tour way back when, and I must say I enjoyed the experience very much.

Don't forget Liz also did the vocals on FSOLs Lifeforms EP (awesome)...

https://youtu.be/Sup3HBNZFns

Amusingly, I was in a New Romantic band once, albeit briefly. But coming from punk roots it was always leaning towards Bauhaus, I wasn't into all that Spandau Ballet nonsense
