John at Just Suds May have come up trumps. Just waiting to hear if somebody a bit more local has one but I suspect I will go with Johns one.

What do you have, out of curiosity?

Not sure what mileage your current short motor has?
But is it worth fitting a set of new rings?

67k on the clock on this one. Had thought aboutnew rings, however thatcould be a lot of work to no avail if there is bore damage.

Take the pistons and rods out, and inspect before you write the block off?

Is it breathing heavy and blowing oil out the breather pipe ?

I had a broken bottom ring (oil ring?), compression was ok, down a bit, but it blew oil into the catch tank and down on power. No bore damage just fitted a new ring on the piston. All ok after.

I think Tims on the money with his suggestion. It sounds like you may have snapped a ring as you put the pistones back in. From the pictures you posted I’m doubtful the mark in the bore would cause a massive problem.
I’m assuming you positioned the gaps in each ring roughly 120deg apart ? if you were unlucky enough to install the piston with all the ring gaps lined up you could get a crankcase pressurisation problem .
