Led Zeppelin.

Planet rock are doing a celebration of them, so are allowing the blimps to dominate the playlist,

I can live with that, reminds me of when i had hair to dance with!

Had a bad day at work today so am drowning in self-pity with Slowdive.

Epic shoegaze, it really does sound like stuff crashing in slow motion...

depeche mode were one of mine and my mate pauls fav bands, i still have violator on cd in the car to occasionally get the nostalgia feel. can you believe though that that was nearly 25 years ago now!!! 1990 that album came out, had great success over the pond and dave gahan discovered stuff that money and fame could buy......

i used to have a cassette that i recorded a concert off the raio on, must have been around '83. played it endlessly until a girl distracted me a little...

in those days i used to have hair besides a social life :D

First found Bjork when she fronted the Sugarcubes.
Kev, noticed you found NiN after a link to Gary Numan. They covered his track"Metal", then he guest appeared at live gigs with them as they were inspired by him. Another underrated talent.
Lauren, liking the Slowdive,
Hadn't heard of them but a touch of Cocteau Twins and The Hearthrobs I think. Going to check out more.
Are we all similar ages??

it was an interview some years back of gary numan where trent resnor & NIN were shown saying how much numan had influenced them, and hearing how numan had been a huge fan of the downward spiral that got me to check NIN out.
the cover of Metal is a big fav of mine along with the numan original which considering that it is from 1979 was strikingly futuristic in it's prediction of how machines would develop and become self aware. this is at a time when electronics were a thing of science fiction, mobile phones were a dream and way before the film A.I. was ever concieved.

"Son of metal, I want to be, you.
I could learn to be a man, like you."

I had the great priveledge of seeing Numan perform the whole Pleasure Principle album at Nottingham a few years back, awesome stuff. then followed by his newer stuff.

I guess all us Sud lovers are of a similar age mate, dreaming of them when we were teenagers :)

Bladerunner? Freeekin awesome!

Apart from the latest effects n stuff, it still blows most late films of a similar nature into the weeds,

Better story for starters, fabulous concept, much copied now eh.

In a totally different direction, since having the pc rigged to the stack in the workshop, i normally tune to radio 2 until popmaster is done, then online for planet rock till it gets a tad repetitive, then its onto Dublins finest, TonikRadio,

When you need to keep going, and put the spring back in your step without the need of the estate pharmacist,

Thats the station for me! :D

Straight back to naughtie nineties, and rave on!

Radio 2 for me, it doesn't matter what button you press all my vehicles are set to 2. Pop Master-some days are better than others.

Pop Master?

my success varies massively, as i suspect most folks does.

if i'm lucky, and the questions just hit my era i'm not bad, can get into high 20's, and have fluked the occasional higher, but if theres anything like recent boy and girl band stuff, im stuffed, and of course i'm always one year out!

well, mostly anyway! lol!

Ah - then you'll have spotted the Alfa Romeo Spinner overtaking Gaff and Deckard then?

First sci-fi movie to really take product placement seriously. Incredible attention to detail and fantastic atmosphere, but definitely not a world I would like to live in!

Oddly enough, even while I was listening to punk rock and learning the obligatory 3 chords on the guitar I was still into electronica. My all-time favourite fusion has to be PIL Metal Box/Second Edition - Careering. Keith Levine is using modulation on that Prophet 5 that I have never been able to reproduce, plus Jah Wobble's thumping bass... wow. Sums up my 1979 really.

...of course that would be forgetting the equally brilliant Metamatic by John Foxx. Full of dark, Ballardian references, this album produced one of the best TOTP appearances ever - TEN synthesists, lined up in pairs for "No one driving". A classic!

The soundtrack to my 1980.

Royal Blood!

The depth of sound created by just 2 grungey alternative rockers is astonishing!

They make other duo's like white stripes sound featherweight!

Bass is played similar to an overun Lemmy back in the day, but also very cleverly providing rhythm and lead,

And the drummer cant half smack em too!

I love it, i keep watching the youtube coverage of them at bbc radio 1 big weekend glasgow 2014
