Hi Matt
i'm not sure what was happening with your account to be honest, as i used our admin tool which allows me to sign in as you, in order to test what that user can or cannot do, and it was all perfect,
so i emailed you back directly, not through the forum, and you don't appear to have received that, so i wonder if there's something adrift your end of things?
its nothing to do with the youth of the site/forum, and sadly this is an isolated issue you described, but hopefully, as tested, its all sorted now regardless?
cheers
thank you, and enjoy

Hi Shrew, I've tried again just now and was this time given the option to reply. I have sent a response and asked the fella to let me know if he gets it ok. Thanks for your reply and the effort put in.

The front end is not too bad either - most of the bits are there but some brake pipes cut and fittings gone. The relays are gone as is the radiator but not too much rust and the turret tops are good!

Re: SPRINT 16V Build
FINALLY ...I had a day to work on the 16V Sprint. After clearing all the stuff that had been put on and around the car I pushed it out into the sunshine. Then I got the gearbox off the 1500 engine that was in the Silver Sprint that became the 6C. After a clean up it went onto the 16V engine. However there is a spacer on the 16V starter motor and so I will need a longer bolt at some time in the future....
Then the front of the Sprint was jacked up, the front cross member and trailing arms taken off........and the motor eased under. After a lot of faffing and removal of the dipstick it was in the engine bay.
Gradually I jacked it up and wriggled the gearlever in place - then the top mounting bolt was tapped through the bulkhead fixing. The new 16V crossmember (Thanks again Chris) was loosely bolted in to support the front and the rear mounting rod on the gearbox extension bracket bolted under the bodyshell.

All in once piece now
You're gonna need to play with the wiring a bit though
Phil, isnt that engine with coil pack instead of dizzy if I remember correctly ?

Thanks Kev and Chris. Yes the engine does have a coil pack and ECU so the wiring will be a pain.....

Re: SPRINT 16V Build
Thats what I remembered, but, why didnt you take off the coil pack and install an oil pump and dizzy out of an older car ?
This would make your life A LOT easier, plus it will make the car A LOT faster and FAR MORE RESPONSIVE !
If you go that route, wiring is just changing 3 wires, and you can use the Sprint's coil and ignition harness/relays.
Is it BOSCH or Marelli thats was on this Sprint originally ?

Re: SPRINT 16V Build
Thanks Chris - but if I do that will I also need to take the fuel injection off and go to carbs? I still have the complete 1500 engine which could give me the oil pump and dizzy? It also has the 36 IDF webers.......Supercharged16v wrote:Thats what I remembered, but, why didnt you take off the coil pack and install an oil pump and dizzy out of an older car ?

Anyway a bit more done getting the trailing arms off the old cross member and ready to put on the 16V cross member. Then I got the passenger seat and rear seats down from the shed and just popped them in place. They are 145/6 Alfa seats - slightly modified to fit in the Sprint.

Re: SPRINT 16V Build
Well, ideally, if you could find the ecu and wiring of the non catalytic 16v engine, its a direct swap, less wiring to worry about, and the only difference would be you installing that same engine's dizzy and oil pump. That would make a hell of a difference and you keep the injection.
however, if you're planning on selling this one, whoever buys it can do this mod

Re: SPRINT 16V Build
Thanks Chris - yes it will be sold and quite quickly I hope as we have had several people looking at our house already.....
Trailing arms put on the 16v cross member and connected to the lower arms, then the cross member bolted in place. Also the driveshafts have been bolted to the gearbox hubs so most of the front end mechanicals have been done!

Re: SPRINT 16V Build
As my progress on the Sprint is so slow and we are planning on moving house I am reluctantly thinking of selling the car now in "As is" condition - so please PM me for more info.

Re: SPRINT 16V Build
I finally had a bit of time for the Sprint so checked in my garden shed and found ......a nice Red bonnet and reasonable fuel tank complete with fuel filler pipe and straps!
So they were brought down to the garage and the bonnet put in place. I gave it a quick T Cut just to show the love!
This is the third bonnet as I bought the car with a black bonnet, then it had the grey primered one - now this.....

Re: SPRINT 16V Build
Three days to go - 400 views and 19 watchers.....but no bids yet?
Very interesting to see who will want one of the last Sprints with the last - and most powerful, iteration of the famous Alfa "boxer" engine.
Very few of these cars now available....Will there be a bidding frenzy ---- then a sudden "Buy it Now"?

Re: SPRINT 16V Build
Sprint collected today and gone to a new home near Hastings.
Sad to see it go as I wanted to get it finished - but at least it went with the 16V engine fitted.
