We were there today too - the blue 131 was converted to Group 4 specification - and was running downdraft carbs. It was for sale - £65,000.

Hi Bryan,
Thanks for that. Looks like a great day out.
Do you know if the blue car is an original Fiat 131 Abarth Rally or a modified Stradale?
£65k sounds cheap for an original at today's prices.

Hi Simon,
If I recall correctly, it was an original 131 Abarth rally car which was subsequently converted to Group 4 specification at a later date. It was certainly a genuine period competition car - complete with the overpowering smell of a leaky fuel tank/breather! It was part of the Group B collection, I'm sure if you contact them they would be able send the contents of the info sheet.

Hi Brian,
Sounds like it could be a great buy for someone but it's outside my scope I'm afraid.

I was thinking more specification (of things like transmission/rear axle) rather than suggested purchase. I would describe the condition as used and usable rather than good, so anyone buying it and wanting it immaculate would have to spend quite a bit to bring it up to the same condition as other cars there yesterday (the Perez family Audi Quattro S2 stood out!).

Hi Simon, I knew I should have photographed the info sheet on the white one.
It said something about being only one of two that were converted to a high turret suspension set up (? ), or something like that. Sorry.
It had been restored to an original spec. I will see if there was anything in the program about it. I gave it to my dad for a read so don't have it to hand.

Sorry I didn't see you Bryan. I thought it was a good show.

Hi Guys,
Kind of you to think about the spec. Other than me having a play with increasing power output, my 131 Abarth Volumetrico will be staying completely standard and will be sold. The CTCRC will not let me race it and I do understand. It would open up a can of worms. I need to build a 100% compliant car that will be an Escort slayer. It would also be a dreadful shame to strip out such a rare and original road car.
I have my eye on several Fiat twin cam cars that are suitable already but it's on a one out, one in basis so the Volumetrico has to go.

That's a real shame Simon, I was hoping that you would turn into a racer.

Having said that, if you are set on going for it with another racer then just as good from a racing perspective. A fiat twin cam will be a great addition to the grid.....a 131 sport in racing orange ?

The red and gold 2 litre escort we raced against in the ctcrc has just sold at auction for £24k, but I'd rather have a fiat........or maybe a beta coupe :D

As said, sorry to hear that you will sell the car Simon.
Good luck with the hunt for a replacement.
I / we, so enjoyed you guys upsetting the Fords at Snetterton.
I take it you are wanting rwd ?

Hi Tim,

This red and gold one with dry sump lubrication
http://www.silverstoneauctions.com/1974 ... t-mkl-2000

Malcolm and Ted whooped him at Snetterton.

Spot on Keith. We all had such a good time at Snetterton. I am looking for the lightest, best handling, two litre Fiat twin cam car that is pre 83 that is an Escort slayer.

Simon,
I so wish that I had taken my sud that day as I passed that Escort on the way home. (it was on it's trailor   ) He must have been sick of the sight of Alfasuds. Is that why he sold it. :D

Would a Strada 130 be any good or do you not want front wheel drive?

Hi Keith,

Paddock quote ''I got beaten by a bloody Alfasud".
A 130tc would be great if you could prove it was marketed before 1st Jan 2013 but I think it was introduced in summer 83 :(

the strada 125TC was before the 130TC, but not here in UK.
had a single carb instead of the twins of the 130TC.

the strada 130TC had a good standard spec in the day, far better than the escorts etc. twin 40's, ZF close ratio 'box, vented brakes etc

Yes Ted but that is a whole different story. I hate to think what that Escort driver said after he had won every race in the season up until you beat him.

Further down the pack, the red and gold escort got beaten by Malcolm by 2 seconds, I hassled him and finished just behind him and Richard had given him a mauling the day before!
And he has got a 208bhp dry sump motor!

Price to be released, possibly missed its reserve but close enough to negotiate or 'subject' as I think it's referred to?

We all know how good the Suds are at punching way above their weight, but it still surprises me that other folk in classic competition and car circles are so taken aback by them when it happens

Very nice Kev but at 177bhp/tonne it's not an Escort Mk1 RS2000 slayer.
I am going to need 194bhp/tonne.
I got a form from BARC today and they are asking what the cars power/weight ratio is. Very happy they are asking that.

Hi Guys,
The rolling road session went well today.
IMG_5311.JPG
The first job for the tuner was to increase the main jet size to get the air/fuel ratio down as it was a bit lean. The main jet in the bottom of this fuel bowl was 195. We ended up with a jet of 226.
IMG_5310.JPG
The previous power output was 117bhp. This is what we got today.

nice result there simon, decent increase on HP and even better jump in torque, sure it pulls noticeably better now? 8-)

Hi Kev,
I think a lot more can be gained from fitting a 45 DCOE and a proper fabricated exhaust manifold so it can breathe better and properly utilise the extra boost but very happy with the output for essentially a standard setup.
The torque is impressive. The tester was impressed it could accelerate from standstill in 4th.

Simon

Hi Tim,
The Volumetrico is not allowed.
It's going to be sold soon.
The Beta Montecarlo is very nice but wouldn't be allowed either.
I have my eye on a compliant car.
