for engine experts

Post by chriswilliams »

I have an oiling problem on the OS tappet box. The oil level is low around the cams and I suspect that there is not enough oil getting there. I know the oil comes from the channel on the top of the engine, through gaps in the centre head bolt and in to the centre cam bearing and out into cams.

So if there is a blockage where will it be? Is there a known issue?

This is a GC engine with solid cams but not the later hydraulic talppets.

Any help appreciated.

Chris.

So, what did i find?
What I did not find was a blockage! The oil feed to the cylinder head was clear and the feed through the head to the tappet box was ok.
The only other possibility was a leak. when I looked at the mating surface between the head and the tappet box there seems to be a problem in the center where the oil feeds through. A straight edge placed across that section can get a feeler gauge through. I think it has been bleeding the oil here bypassing the tappet box.
I have sealed that area with blue hylomar and reassembled.
We will see if that fixes the problem!

regards to all.

Chris.
