I think its time...

Post by PETROLHEAD »

Hi all

After long consideration, and a few conversations, i think its time that i make a decision on the Fast Road/Track sud that ive been sitting on for far too long now.

As some of you may recall, the Sud was built by Kev in preparation for the forum meet and track day we did at Cadwell Park, and despite his best efforts, it survived the following year too, on the whole!

It still is, a very solid, rot free series 3 shell, with safety devices full roll cage, and running on 33 outboard front end with Gaz shocks, and 33 rear axle with polybushed linkages etc.

The engine, is a stock but rebuilt 1712cc 16v, still running the fuel injection, as found in the last of the 33 Cloverleafs, circa 135/138 bhp, and It completed most of 2 track days and not a mile more!

The gearbox, was initially a close ratio from the early 1.2 ti, but the final drive ratio on this was so short and low for my intended road use, that it has been swapped out for a similarly close ratio but taller final drive 1.5 Cloverleaf box.

The engine and gearbox are still outside of the shell, as it was my intention to prepare the engine bay first for my choice and change of colour, but this is pretty much where the project stalled.

Other spec changes are the electric fuel pumps, swirl pot, and possibly a couple of other bits that i cannot recall.

Interior was removed but nothing substantially changed that prevents one being retrofitted if you chose too.

My plan was to build my own version of a wide bodied nod to the Trofeo cars, with smoothed bodywork which would very much end up like Ted's gorgeous green race Sud. So i also have a full set of fibreglass bodywork ready, which includes fibreglass front wings, and full rear quarter panels, all with the Trofeo arches blended. I believe this was originally the work of Bob Wright, of Alfa Panels fame, and the moulds and versions of, have been no longer available probably since Ted's car was created, so these are very rare bits of kit, and available separately if required.

It is of course for the reasons and parts above, that it never bothered me much that Kev managed to brush and rub the same piece of armco with the same rear arch, twice in two years, bless him, he was having a ball! :D

I also have one of the very very few Carbon Kevlar recreations of the original Trofeo rear spoiler, along with the correct series one spolier accents to accurately reproduce that appearance.

I have accumualted lot of parts in the pursuing of my dream build along the way, some of which i will likely include with the Sud bundle, and some i will list separately, but if interested, it'd be best to come over to see what i have, and see what you'd like, but essentially, as it stands right now, its is a relatively empty, caged, rolling shell, very solid and rust free, on 33 running gear, with a 1712cc 16v and gearbox, with a new clutch kit, ready to reassemble and refit.

What extra's i do know can be included, are a fully flocked dashboard (never used or fitted since made), more suspension arms and bits, a sud rear axle and discs etc, a pair of fully adjustable Leda shock absorbers (rear), polybush kits, clocks, a red carpet, and probably a lot more once i start digging.

The car is road registered, i have the vin and V5, and of course now tax and mot exempt.

I have a figure in mind, mainly instigated from the conversations I've already had with interested parties, but feel free to message me and arrange to come and see what you think.

I'll take current photo's hopefully this week to show exactly what the shell is like today and so on, but this is essentially how it was and mostly the same today.

Ignore the multiple wheel's fitted, its on completely different rims today, which WONT be to many's taste i'm sure, but they keep it rolling!

Here are few piccies i found of some of the bits, including a hybrid 33/Sud Hydraulic handbrake i made to retain the Sud rear calipers and discs but do away with the front inboard brake assemblies, flocked dashboard, leda coilovers and so on...

Thank you Tim

The Sud has since found a new owner, deposit taken and its up to me to start digging everything out!

This will very likely mark the end of my boxer era, so there should be lots of bits n pieces showing up soon too!

Sorry to hear you have decided to move the Sud 16v on Shrew.
It would have been great to see the outcome of your vision.
Didn't realise Kev duffed it up so bad
