2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Silver with black leather interior, 16” teledials, 98k, FSH, cambelt changed at 72k. I bought this of a colleague at work who moved to Dubai. She put it through an MOT but it failed on a few things. Brakes binding osr (calliper seized), worn discs, wipers, headlight not working. Worst thing could be it needs a steering rack but not sure about that.
I’m having an extension built and it’ll be in the way so has to go. Way too good to scrap, looks amazing! £150?

That does look a nice car and as you say, it'd be a crying shame to see it scrapped.
Whereabouts are you again?

Just been looking at mot history likes wiper blades and tyres sounds like rack or column needs looking at and it’s been a year since test but looks nice and clean would be interested depending where you are based

It’s in great shape bodily and everywhere you look, even under the bonnet looks nice and clean. I’m in Blackpool. The car starts and drives although the seized calliper holds it back. Think it’s been to Alfatune at some point. Well worth reviving.
Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
5hours away from me it would cost as much in fuel as the car
Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Not much closer for me, transportation would cost more than the car too!
Hope someone saves it though. Time will come when they are in short supply, look at how many Suds got scrapped...

Ah, that’s a shame. Yes, my thoughts exactly. You don’t see many pre-facelift 156’s on the roads these days and the numbers will only go down. Easy restoration for someone, no bodywork issues to tackle at least lol
Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Hope it can be saved, very fond of the 156 .
She looks exactly like my first one, veloce with teledials in silver. Destroyed by a minibus
IMO in its purist form, look how many manufactures now have hidden rear door handles and they don't all look as well designed as Alfas original in 1997....Classic style.

Definitely. It’s so full of character and detail. I love the discreet lines above the wheel arches that disappear completely as you follow them into the doors. I arranged for a scrap man to pick her up but by the time I’d started her up and turned it around I had a queasy feeling that I couldn’t let her go this way and told him not to bother!!!Kegsti66 wrote:Hope it can be saved, very fond of the 156 .

Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
So I bought this from Richard a little over 3 years ago........... its been stood outside the workshop since then.... but would always start instantly when a battery was put on it, so I've been getting around to it for all this time ! I've nearly scrapped it, but managed to resist, and nearly sold it to someone who wanted an engine, - but always came back to thinking its too good for that. So its had a cambelt, aux belt and balence shaft belt - there was no balence belt fitted, surely if it had snapped there would have been some kind off carnage, - so is taking the balence belt off some kind of tuning mod ? Its now got all new rear brakes, and front pads, but, now its refilled with new oil to the top mark on the dip stick there is a few drips of oil on the floor, - turns out the sump is cracked above where the exhaust runs under the sump. Are 1.6 sumps the same as the 2.0 ? - there is a 1.6 sump on ebay at the moment, I would have thought they are the same, but can anyone confirm this ? or does anyone have a 2.0 sump ? Nearly there, but BUGGER !
cheers, John.
cheers, John.
Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Not sure if the 1.6 & 2.0 are the same but more than likely.
I've a whole bottom end if needed, if nobody has a sump spare?
Be nice to see it saved and back on the road

Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Kev the 2.0 JTS was derived from the regular TS. But it’ was the 1.9 and the 2.2 JTS engines that were derived from GM engines . They supplied 1.9 and 2.2 JTS engine blocks to Fiat and belonged to GM’s Ecotec range of engines. So if Johns car is a 2.0 it may we’ll be similar to a reg TS
John can you post a photo of your sump and we can all look to see if it looks the same
Btw note the 1.9 and the 2.2 JTS GM derived engines are completely different to the 2.0 JTS.

So even though the car has a JTS badge on the back, it's actually a Twin Spark, and according to the V5 its a Twin Spark, so I'm curious about the JTS badge ?? - mot booked for a week today .... fingers crossed !

156 now mot'd, taxed and insured, - I love it, brilliant car !
Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Did it turn out to be a TS then John? And did you get the sump sorted? I do indeed have a sump if needed.
The 156 is/was a great car, no still is! I keep looking but am able to resist so far...

Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
It is definately a TwinSpark, - I've bodged the sump for now with araldite ! I thought with 5 years off the road there will probably be one or to issues to sort out, so will try to tackle them at the same time, - I have a replacement sump now Kev, but thanks for the offer !
Cheers, John.

That's great that you have ended up with a car you really like. Good effort.
Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Well done John, so glad that she wasn't scrapped.
I got a message from the guy who bought my last 156 a while ago. I sold it with a full MOT. We all then ran into the covid pandemic when they gave MOTs a six month break and 18 months after he contacted me to say she sailed through her next test and he still loves it and says it is the best car he has ever owned.

Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Strange that it’s got a jts badge, they definitely did a jts in the pre facelift but I think it came quite late with the slightly updated dash and colour coded rub strips on the bumpers.
My dad had 3 as his last sensible family cars before we all moved out. Always thought the looked great and drove nicely.
Good to know another has been saved.

Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Well, 12 months on, - mot time ..... and no problem ! I've done nearly 9000 miles in it, and it's still great, I had it converted to LPG, so cheap to run fuel wise, - about 7000 miles was when the conversion paid for it's self, and with something like 80% less Nox, and 30 % less co2 it's greener than an electric car ! happy days !
Cheers John.
Cheers John.
Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
That's brilliant. Any downside to the conversion.
Was talking to a chap today who tries to save old cars and he sold a BMW 8 times as it kept coming back to him.
The last time he bumped into it at the scrap yard, bought it back home and took it for an MOT to see what it needed.
It passed once they replaced a wiper blade. He got great pleasure just telling the tale.

Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
The only downside to the LPG is that the spare wheel makes the boot untidy as the tank is in the spare wheel well ! - and the rarety of LPG pumps at petrol stations, but I've a bulk tank at the workshop that the heating runs off, and I can fill the car from that, so for me, very convenient. The car runs just the same, there is no disernable difference, and the switch from petrol to gas is seemless.
Good story about the BMW, - Why are cars such throw away items ?

Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Great to hear John. Nice that she is still running fine and doing some miles as well.
Re: 2002 Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Veloce
Fabulous story, the 156 is a great car, still can see me getting another.
Interesting about the LPG conversion too, used to be a popular thing but not so much nowadays.
And yes, WAY more environmentally friendly to run that than a £40k electric car that takes years to offset the impact of building the damn thing in the first place!

Another 12 months on and a fresh mot ! - it needed a couple of front wishbones and a sidelight bulb - what an a bloody fiddly thing to change ! - but otherwise still going strong, - 9200 miles this year, and still very pleased with it !
Cheers, John.
