Remote control
Remote control
I'm not happy with the gearchange in my Sud with late 33 type 907 gearbox .
I've got the remote control bushes from Greece/Italy !
Can I remove the remote with the engine and gearbox in situ? (After removing exhaust manifold)

Re: Remote control
It should be relatively straightforward Dave, just get the car as high as you can to make access easier.

Re: Remote control
Thanks John, just wondered if the 2 bolts connecting the remote to the gearbox would come out sideways.

Re: Remote control
Hi Dave
I think You’ll struggle to get the top one out unless you drop the box down really Low. however you may be able to get to the 4 x small M8 bolts that hold the remote mtgs on to the rear cover.

Re: Remote control
The bolts going horizontal won't come out because of the transmission tunnel, when Bryan had the remote break at Cadwell the solution was to take the mountings off the gearbox leaving them on the remote section using a long extension and a UJ for the awkward ones, Tom and myself managed it laid on the grass with the car on a trailer by lowering the assembly down as far as the central mounting would allow.
Since then I recall Tom telling me he's cut access holes in the tunnel to allow the bolts to be pulled into the car, should it ever need to be taken out again.

Re: Remote control
Maybe I can remove the gear lever itself, to do its bushes.
And do the front bush in situ?
Will find out this week!

Re: Remote control
But if needs be will drill access holes in the tunnel, and grommet them afterwards
Re: Remote control
A rare job that was easier than I thought.
Gear lever came out for the 2 bushes to be replaced.
Front bush at selector shaft done in situ.
Didn't have to remove the exhaust!
Slight improvement in gear selection, but still doesn't fall naturally into second......needs pushing hard to the left.

Re: Remote control
Thinking about it, a right handed Italian would be better able to engage second gear, than a left handed Brit with a dodgy shoulder?

Correction:-
A right handed Brit with a dodgy left shoulder!

Re: Remote control
I do think you're correct they were made that way for the traffic light drag race!
