Thanks Keith. If the weather stays off for a few days next week I’ll start ripping the old one out . I can’t get it in the garage at the moment as I’ve got the rear springs off the A30 to be refettled by Jones Springs in Walsall. (They’ve done work for Car SoSage)

Hi Tony It’s mainly Things like The heater assembly That I’ve been stripping cleaning and checking out along with starting to get a few bits powder coated . The gearbox remote is all done pedal box is complete apart from the servo that I still need to refinish. I’ve had the front crossmember powder Coated and I’ll be getting the rest of the front suspension done in the coming weeks
It’s a case of getting as many bits and pieces restored so that when the body is finished and painted the rebuild Should be done quite quickly . I reckon if I have all parts and everything is ready And I took my time I could Screw a sud together in about A week

Spent the last few days fitting the New Engine to the Coupider. We thought The Turbo May have suffered but It looks like it’s ok. The engine sounds fine with no significant issues.

Alternative turbo fitted today . Seems to Have improved things . We’ll run it up the street A few time over the weekend To raise some proper boost and see what’s what.(We’ve got Very understanding neighbours). If all seems ok then we’ll get the original unit rebuilt as it’s got a sexy wastegate actuator

Also rebuilt the dynamo to fix the noisy front bearing engine sounds great now but next winter I’ll be pulling the lump to do a. Fast road build With omega pistons and a nice cam. I’ll also pocket the block To take The 1275 head Off the midget as I’ve got a stage 3 BVH for that.

Graham Hill raced in an A30 or A35.
He used to get inside on corners and lean on other cars when a wheel lifted!

Took little “Jumbo” For a run out today and I have to say he ran faultlessly. It actually turned into the longest single run we’ve ever done with the Little car at nearly 40miles. We always get lots of Admiring glances and Big smiles.
It seems everyone’s Dad or Grandad had one back in the day .

Glad to see you've got correct height rear springs Lou.
When we had ours, lots of people fitted rear springs that raised the car up too much, and they looked ridiculous!

Dave. That was the problem we sorced then from an so called A30 “specialist” and the car sat way too high but more concerning was the stiffness. They were unacceptably hard so we Ended up taking the original 65yo springs to a Co in Brum called Jones Springs (they’ve done work for Car SoSage)
And they reset them and added an extra “helper” leaf Which has really sorted it . The problem now is the Brand new Fronts are still a little soft So we’ll be changing them again For some stiffer but std Ride height Units .

Hope you get the suspension sorted.
If you fit a hot engine, cornering ability is a factor.

When James Hunt packed in F1, he went into budgie breeding (true!) and bought an A30/35 van to transport them about.

He fitted it with skinny cross plies, and used opposite lock in the wet on roundabouts!

I have a mental picture of the budgies leaning into the corners on their perches.

Given the recent work on the Austin and the fact that the Midget has become a Really “BIG” Job. The Sud has gone up the To do list. This means I’ll be starting to concentrate on it more and more. I guess there’s even a chance of getting it to the paint shop by Christmas . What a present that would be .
