Good luck at Donington Tim, glad to hear the car is ready to go.

Re: Sprint racer
You have a real mix of cars in your series Tim.
Were you pleased with your times?

Re: Sprint racer
I was pleased with race, enjoyed it. I knew I needed a good start to get past the louts and Tvr 3000 as they are quick on the straights, slightly slower on bends.
I got great start and in front of both but the car in front missed a gear and I had to back off hence they came either side.
Enjoyed chasing them down though .
Lap time target was to get into 1.29's, so I need to find 1.5 seconds. Kraner I was one of the slowest on speed traps.....need to grow bigger gonads and keep my foot in rather than lift off too much. I'm also keeping the revs down for engine life, up to another .5 of a second per lap if I used max revs perhaps.
I want to look at a brake upgrade as I don't like the pedal travel on the standard set up.
However, excuses to one side, we had a great day and race. As you say a real mixed bag of cars, lotus, Tvr, spitfire, GT 6, midget, lancia beta and Monte Carlo , e type, Ferarri and Bertone coupes. I'm the quickest of the baby engined cars, albeit the 1600 twin cam lotus have their own class and are very quick. The Tvr 3000's have Ford 3 litre v6 engines and are plastic so lightweight and 200bhp, see how quick the yellow one comes down the start/finish straight. Nice clean racing also, the chap who punted me off last year was encouraged not to come back by the series chairman

Re: Sprint racer
Keeping your foot in at Craner Curves is worth more time than folk realise i think Tim
The extra momentum if held together at the old hairpin carries on all the way up under Starkeys and Schwantz.
Could actually be the vast majority of the 1.5 seconds you're looking for Tim
But yes, large Gonads is a big plus, and the near perfect set up of course!

Re: Sprint racer
Is it really just 6 or 7 weeks until the season starts Not sure if I enter the CTCRC at Silverstone end of March, or the HSCC Donington early April for my first race.
for the Northern contingent, the CTCRC is at Croft in mid April (20th ish) - I plan on entering.
New big end shells fitted, finally got the twin Dellorto 45's on but not sure on the difference between them and the 40's as used different rollers - they sound awesome at least.
A bunch of maintenance needed, nothing huge just a thorough check over.
Need some new tyres, air filters and possibly an extinguisher as the MSA regs have been updated and I need to read them 10 times to understand them ! The money making machine never ends.

Hi Tim
My first event is at donnington on Mar 4th.
Hogg the same problem as you with extinguishers. Lifeline have a bit of a real on new if you send them your old one.
I a!m thinking of lifeline or fev as at least they are in the UK for servicing which is the other aspect of this new money out the msa have opened up.

Re: Sprint racer
A bit late sharing this after the event, I raced at Donington on Sat just gone by, a good day overall, damp qualifying went better than usual for me at 13th out of 33 cars. A couple of quicker cars came thru in the dry in the race but I managed to sat ahead of all but one of the 2 litre and below cars. Still didn't hit my target time, and most is lost at Craner.
Blown the sump gasket so some work to do to reseal.
if you page thru this you will see a small video clip of the 70's Roadsports coming onto the grid, very varied set of cars
https://www.facebook.com/historicscc/
Assuming no major issues sump wise, I'll be at Snetterton Saturday 21st.

Re: Sprint racer
The next race should have been Cadwell Wolds trophy may 19/20th.
Unfortunately the entry is currently over subscribed and I run in the invitation class so at this stage looks like I won't get on the list. Preference is quite rightly given to those that run to the regs and score championship points, and while it's really positive that the grids this year are better than the previous 3 seasons, gutted not to race at cadwell.
Cadwell is limited to 28 starters, yet strangely Croft which isn't that much wider can run 40 starters.
I'll have to think about Mallory instead, which I've never found that interesting to race on.
I've noticed that msvr do all comers races at a number of circuits including cadwell later this year, the entries have been low historically, but maybe we can drum up 10 or so Alfa (and golf) racers for a one off ?

Re: Sprint racer
Great weekend at Croft nostalgia meeting. Probably 2 of my best races for a while.
Down side is I have a recurring head gasket issue, but the sprint was running very well.
Delayed start in race 2 hence this race starts at 8 mins....very happy with my start on the left of the in car video.

Great photo Tim.
Great to see you kept the 308 behind you. Nice of Mark to film your race.
Cheers.

Re: Sprint racer
Yes, it’s that super slippery paint you put on it for me Kev....
The 308 had a power issue, it was quicker on some corners tho. I might have just caught the Porsche and tvr if I hadn’t had to defend on the back of the circuit.

Half a second separated 8 cars in qualifying at Silverstone, nice end to the season. Couple of pics from Croft earlier in the year, managed to finish ahead of the Ferrari in pic one and pulled away from the pack in pic 2.
