fuel smell

Post by frostpinfold »

I have a 105 Spider 1976 which I havent had long. It has been totally restored and is in Concours condition. Everything appears to be as it should be but it has a major problem, it absolutely stinks of petrol. It has an electric pump with a pressure regulator. All hoses are stamped suitable for unleaded. With the pump turned on it ticks until the Dellorto carbs are full then stops ticking. Running your fingers over anything in the fuel system does not show any trace of fuel. This includes the filler hose the fuel gauge and pipe leading from the tank.
Any suggestions please would be very welcome

I would look very closely at the fitting of the rubber box around the fuel filler cap as I suspect its fitted wrong or split and allowing fumes out. Good luck.
