Well that is a pain you could do without.
Hope something can be sorted out.

Indeed it is Keith. I’ve decided to refit the Monroes for the time being (after giving them a quick paint job). I wasn’t changing them because they were knackered but more that I had the konis. I’ve also still got to put the drivers door back together.

The wheels do need a refurb but I’m skint at the moment so that may be next winters hibernation project
Still got a few bits to do at the rear and put the drivers door back together then I’ll tax it next month ready for summer

Lou,
should last more than a few years!
I presume you have to check the tracking after a front end rebuild.
Seems there are DIY laser tracking kits available for reasonable money......or do you go to a tyre place?

2023/4 Winter hibernation work on the spider. New radiator along with a freshly powder coated fan shroud. And I’ve managed to get all the old sclonge out of the header tank.

I also took the opportunity to remove and inspect the fuel pump / sender unit out of the tank to check its general condition. On The early cars the fuel pump sits in a big rubber holder. Over time they can break down and fall apart leading to potential fuel pressure issues. They change the design on The later cars and they much more robust. But it was worth checking

Next session will be on the back end suspension arms etc I’ve already fitted new shocks, springs and bump stops and cones (the bump stop cones have a habit of rotting away). I’m also going to take my front konis off as I love the way it looks on the 18” jetfins but they won’t fit with the lowered spring pans of the Konis. That said I’ve also got a set of 17” teledials but they need new tyres.

But before I can do that I have to redecorate the dining room. It’s all Fun fun fun this Christmas 🎄

Lou, looks like an up and coming minter!

Are there any regular rust traps on the Spiders?

I need to know for when I buy one!

They still seem to go for bargain prices

Thanks Dave. Tbh the 916 series cars seem to be ageing very well. That said the biggest areas are rear ends of the sills and rear arches obviously there isn’t much metal work at the front but inner wings around the strut top Mount are worth looking at aswell as the floor to sill seam. Doors don’t seem to be a problem. But also Check the boot floor rear light seals can leak leading to a damp boot. Lou

Oh yeah and hoods can become tatty and rough. At the moment mine isn’t too bad but there a co in Stockport that does decent quality ones for £1180. Btw I’d also go for Manual roof instead of the fancy hydraulic ones. They add significant weight and It’s just another level of “Go Wrongery” that i didnt fancy getting involved with
