GIARDINETTA WEBSITE & INFO

Post by PETROLHEAD »

There is currently only one website dedicated to the Alfasud Giardinetta rarity, and we are not about to change that.

The site is run by a fellow member on here, Alfa_Japan, and very well too, so it seems only proper that we simply link across to his site and jointly promote the ownership of all of our Alfasud models.

This is the site

Please visit and view the excellent info, contact Alfa_Japan, Ronald, either directly or post in here for Giardinetta forum based chat, and im sure he'll be along as soon as.

Thank you
SHREW

Shrew, thanks for the post and the sub-forum.

This is an ideal opportunity to potentially get into contact with some people knowing the whereabouts (or previous) whereabouts of the 8 South African made Giardinetta's (RHD) which were imported into the UK by a UK Alfa dealer. I once red somewhere that about 8 vehicles were imported, but have no confirmed sources. The South African Giardinetta's were made in 1982 only so I assume the import must have been either in 1982 or 1983? So far I've been able to track down 2 of the vehicles imported to the UK, there must have been more. If anybody here has information on the missing vehicles or more information on the vehicles already known to the Register I would be very happy to receive it to complement or potentially correct existing information.

Hi Alfa Japan

Lyles the Alfa dealer in newcastle imported a batch or around 30 RHD giardinettas into the uk in around 1983, they had the early dashboard and door trims but S3 plastic bumpers, front grille etc but I think the rear plastic bumper was unique

I have seen two of the imported rhd giardinettas from this batch in the past five years but they were so terribly rusty there was no hope of ever restoring them, one was for sale in nearby hexham northumberland around four years ago at a specialist bmw / german car specialist.

I also stripped all the giardinetta specific parts from a lhd blue one from around 1977/78 giardinetta which was in the back yard of an alfa specialist on the welsh / english border around ten years ago and still have the rear windows and steel rear window frames, wood effect boot floor and tailgate doorcard, the body was terrible

These are the only giardinettas I have heard of in the uk unless you know more, would love one as a company parts van, keep up the good giardinetta work

Cheers Alfasud-parts online for the info. I heard about the English dealer who imported a batch of South African Giardinetta's but wasn't aware of which dealer, thanks a million for that information.

The blue Giardinetta in the backyard of the Alfa specialist is a Dutch vehicle of the second type 904B or 904B2. How this Dutch car ended up up in the backyard of this Alfa specialist is unknown. Should you have the VIN of that particular vehicle I would be very interested for the purpose of the register. You can currently find this vehicle in the register as the "unknown" vehicle (no VIN known) U042.

So far I have only been able to trace 2 English vehicles (South African imported ones) and those can be found in the register in the "known" section (VIN available) on the bottom side of the table. Both vehicles in apalling condition and for sale.
