Never got around to it Lou, with the donor car you maybe still have and the door it seems like it's meant to be yours!

Door isn't that bad in al honesty, no rot jut dented where the break-in was attempted.

Finally Lou and myself managed to get the planets to align today so I went over to grab a few spares from the scrapyard destined 145 she has there.

Took the Giulietta for a ride over, a door and a few spares should easily go in, eh?

Turns out the more modern a car I get the less space they have, took 3 of us to squeeze a door in, even after we'd took the door card off!
The fact we managed to get 2 doors, plus door cards, both front wings and many other assorted parts in was more to do with stubbornness than anything else, the knees against the dashboard ride home were a simple price to pay.

Thanks Lou, these parts will help keep the 145 going, hoping I don't need them too soon!

As I said before Kev your welcome. I’m just glad to be able to help you keep your car on the road for many years to come (especially as I may still want to buy it when I stop messing about with stupid race cars)
I took some other bits off for you after you left. Including the boot release solenoid you mentioned I’ll put them to one side for the next planetary alignment.

You should have photographed the parts in the car.

The sunroof on the 145 has always been its worst bit, the frame was rusted terribly and with the seal being a bit leaky it has been letting water in this winter as its parked at home.

I got a very good used one a while ago from clover breakers so that was swapped a few weeks ago. Think I may have already mentioned this.... maybe it got lost in the forum update..

Anyway, the old one was really very rusted and well overdue change.
Relieved that the car roof has no rust on it at all, confined to the sunroof panel alone.. phew! ;)

I retrimmed the sliding sunroof cover panel for the new assembly so it will match the new material for the droopy main roof panel.

The roof liner is like a cardboard fibrous material but the original liner glue had failed, well the foam had rotted away and let it all droop down.
Cleaned it all up ready for the new material when I get chance.

This afternoon the planets aligned, nice sunny afternoon with no rain forecast and not that windy.

Quite pleased with the outcome, I'm not that good at trimming so despite the odd crease I'm happy with it.

Giving it overnight in the shed to dry off fully then I'll refit it in the 145 tomorrow afternoon so it's out of harms way!

Safely back in the car now even though there was a disaster earlier on  left it in the garden on some trestles while the sun dried the last of the glue off, well it was dry really but just to be sure. The wind got under it and flipped it on the floor  of course, like toast, it landed material side down. Thankful that the last week or two the grass has dried up so didn't get mud on the new liner.

Fitted it back into the car now so it's safe. Still a few bits to put back in like grab handles but at least it's out of the way and won't get damaged or dirty.

Every time I even sit in the 145 it reminds me what a great car it is.
The droopy roof liner sorted along with the rusty and noisy sunroof should only make it nicer still 8-)

Quick question Kev, have you lowered the driver's seat cos I always thought that I was sitting on my 145 rather than in it?
Then again everything seems a high position after driving the Sud.

Agree it always feels like you're sitting on rather than in a 145 but after a few miles it feels natural.
And at my age it's easier to get out of :D

Finished the roof lining this afternoon, sun visors and grab handles fitted which meant cutting holes in the new lining

Glad it's done and the holes are in the right place! Not perfect but I'm pleased with it, way better than the droopy material that was there.

Gave the car a decent hoover out to celebrate, even in the spare wheel well. :D

Now I've had the 145 for 3 or 4 years I guess but it's the first time I've spotted this. :?:

Wondering now if I've always had it and never spotted it, or if it came from Lou and I forgot I had it
Either way it points to my worsening memory :?

Any ideas what this little tool in the roll might be?

I imagine you’ve always had it as your car Has a sunroof it’s not needed on non sunroof cars. basically if you drop the interior light out to get to the motor you’ll see a Flush round Spindle that rotates when you operate the roof It has a slot in it insert the tool and push up to engage you can then turn the spindle to close the roof if it fails electrically (it is Italian after all)

Gave it a wash and quick dry off up the road today, hadn't tried it since finishing the roof off.
Very happy that the sunroof is pretty much silent now, used to whistle terribly above 50mph as the front edge wasn't secure!

The wind deflector that pops up when the glass panel is retracted back I knew needed cleaning and some rust treating was next now I could get at it.
One side where the glass panel rubs across it to fold it back down had rusted because the paint had been scraped off.

Once that had dried off a good layer of hammerite should hold things back.
I'll leave it a couple of weeks before putting it back on the car so it can harden off nicely. Might even think about glueing a thin plastic slider on it rather than have it rubbing on the paint.

Last week I was going to be doing the Y10 sills but had a lazy week off instead, haven't done that for years so quite enjoyed it.

Did decide to tackle a bit of rust on the strut tower that's been bugging me for a while since I spotted it under that rubber corner piece that sits around the bonnet hinge.
Expected it to be needing welding so took the strut off in readiness.
Surprised to see though from underneath there was no sign of an issue, seems it's where that rubber corner piece sits that keeps it damp up above.

Managed to clean off the surface rust and try as I might with a hammer and chisel the tower was solid so cleaned up nicely, treated with Jenolite rust converter, hammerite couple coats then found some 5 wheel silver that was near enough rather than leave black hammerite on show.
IMG_20200416_172807.jpg
Gave everything a couple of coats of tetroseal including the strut top mount then put it back together happy that a potential issue down the road had been avoided.

Then I noticed a small puddle of coolant on the perspex sheet the jack was on, right under the engine.....

Cleaned off the engine and started it up to see where the coolant had come from.....
Corner of the head gasket

One step forward two steps back as usual

Had planned on doing the cam and balance belts this summer anyway as has been 3 years since I got the little 145.

Got the head off tonight and sure enough the gasket has failed on the front corner, belt end.

I'll strip it all down to give it a de-coke, is near 25 years old now after all so if that's the original head gasket it can be forgiven, especially for waiting until a convenient moment to give up teh ghost, could have been much worse! Has never overheated or seemed to use any coolant so should all be well, I'll get the head checked and skimmed as a matter of course but sure it'll be fine.

The large rubber corner pieces are a real pain aren't they, after heavy rain they seem to hold water - wonder where that idea came from? On a nice sunny day I used to take them out to dry and clean the detrius that invariably had appeared.
