National Alfa Day

Post by Kegsti66 »

Anyone going ?
Hopefully I will go up in the Sud.
Not that they seem to like our boxer cars!
Looking at AR Driver you would think no Sud's Sprint's or 33's turned up !!

Alfa membership nowadays seems to consist mainly of moderns, so I guess AR Driver caters to the majority. When I joined I somehow expected every issue to be bursting at the seams with T33s and Montreals (and Alfasuds, naturally), but unfortunately that wasn't the case. I keep on subscribing though

When I was in the Mopar club there was a very clear divide - the club made no attempt to affiliate with Chrysler or its products, because none of the membership were interested. A Neon or a PT Cruiser? When you could have a 7.2 litre Dodge Charger? AROC are too close to the current product line, and are encouraged to promote its products - or else. Old Alfas, especially pre-Fiat models are not welcome. And then they tell Bob Dove to keep it on-topic, or he's out! Result? No more Bits and Pieces, pretty much the only regular feature still worth reading (except Haydn of course, but he is a Boxer fan).

Sorry, rant over

Lauren

Yes I am with you on the Bob Dove bit, I liked his comments about a range of cars and engines.

Taking my Junior to NAD as not done much with it of late and time to change that before the Sud takes over.

I'll be going in my GTV, it's Nuvola Blue if anyone wants to say hello on the day. Wish I could take my Sud but I'm waiting for a windscreen from Pilkington which I doubt will appear in the nick of time. Hope we have some good weather!

Weather looks like it will be mixed. So expect a normal English summers day ! Waterproof and sunblock.

Is anyone from the south venturing north for this? I always feel that the northern national events are less popular than the ones in the south!

Well the weather was good to us.
Good turn out of some very nice cars, and great to meet a few old and new faces.

Had a few Boxers turn up, and I thought the venue was very nice.

Kev (JTD), gave out a few more flyers to a few people who chatted with me, so fingers crossed.

Didn't take many, but here are a few pics.

Yes, and plenty of Boxers too, mostly on the front row of the grid. Let's see them try and leave those out of the next issue of AR Driver!

We just rejoined the AROC this year after Duxford. Last time we where members was back in the 1980's...the magazine back then was A5 sized and black and white and seemed to consist mainly of peoples holiday adventures abroad and the motor sport news....it also seemed back then there was emphasis on new productions Alfas of the time and little if anything on restorations or 'garage' talk... I always thought it was quite strange coming from the Triumph owners club ( ex Dolly Sprint owner) where there was tons of articles on tuning and restoration/rebuilds...

I think this is why the specialist sites start up.
I appreciate AR need to push forward with promoting the new stuff as all classics were new once !!
I first joined in the mid/late '80's. Then left, only to re-join late '90's.
Your new "Driver" magazine is a better production, but still plenty of holidays but it depends who contributes I suppose.
Good job we have a good "Techy" site here.
Anybody got any views on the new BMW Giulia ?
