Inaugural Classic Alfa Forum meet, at MITCAR?

Post by KevJTD »

Hi guys.
Shrew and myself have discussed in the past what meets we could possibly put on, would we be able to get folks to travel if it wasn't for something like a track day?
Maybe for a day at Donington when the Alfas are racing or something like that?
With the countrywide (and beyond) spread of members it was hardly likely that a mid-week pint & pizza type meet would be justifiable for many folks so what to do?
A chat with Jo last night brought out some great ideas, but mate a fry-up is not a lot for folks to travel 100's of miles for! :)

One idea did have merits though....

So I've contacted the powers that be and we've been granted space at MITCAR if I/we feel that we can justify space being given to us.

I now have to gauge interest from you guys, is it something that you'd be keen on doing?
A lot of you already go along to MITCAR, I go most years myself in one make or another, a great event for all Italian car fanatics.
For those that don't know or haven't been before MITCAR stands for Midlands ITalian CAR.
As the name suggests all brands from Italy are represented, Lancia, Ferrari, Maserati, Fiat, etc and of course Alfa. Sometimes even get the odd Ducati turn up.
It's a really friendly event and a relaxed feel to the whole day. The fiatforum have quite a large gathering amongst others so they are used to many car clubs, not just there own members.

As it falls under the umbrella of AROC the only proviso for us being granted space is that I/we encourage new members to sign up to AROC, something I've no hesitation in doing as I'm a long standing AROC member myself. The magazine that is now 6 issues a year is a very good read, and the fee for a years membership goes directly back into the club to fund days like NAD etc.
It's not a big faceless company that reports to share holders so I feel we each have an obligation to support them so we have events like this to go to.

So all I need to know is, would anyone be interested in going along to this?

It will be held on Sunday August 17th at Rockingham Castle, Leicestershire. (NOT Rockingham race-track, the proposed but now cancelled venue of NAD).
Entrance to the Day is £10 per car regardless of how many occupants there are, which also allows access to the gardens and Castle. So no excuses for the Mrs and kids saying they won't go!! ;)

I'm liking this. I'm a +1. A Sunday works for me as well. My Saturdays in the summer are taken up with cricket.

nice to know another member may eb able to make it, cheers mark.

will have to make the decision soon enough as to whether we make a go at this or not, i think it'd be a great event for all to attend (within reason of course) but at the same time if it ends up with the 2 of us then we'd look a bit foolish!!

Ok. I have joined AROC. Whether there is an organised meet or not I will probably go to MITCAR.

so, after talking to phil last night i'm asking again, will we be able to make it worth the organisers alloctaing space for us?

how many will be able and willing to turn up?

i know it's hard to see it now but nights are puling out and temperatures are gradually rising. won't be that long until we are back to sunny days and the weather to go blasting around the countryside.

so, do we go ahead with this meet to launch CAF to the general public, and all otehr italian car clubs, or are we aiming too high too fast?

come on guys, at least comment on it!

does nobody want to meet up?

is the central location in the middle of summer no good?

as much as i like the idea, and the odd other person agrees, i don't want to go down the route of setting this up and it's just phil and me.
not that that'd be a bad day phil, you understand
just would be nice to get a crowd together ;)

Willing? yes.

Able? Alas, probably not... I took the Nova off the road to do the interior prior to the inagural Carfest in 2012. Haven't turned a wheel under power since! But you never know, perhaps 2014 will see the Green Machine back in action again!

I think MITCAR has got to be one of the best events to introduce CAF, in my experience it is the friendliest and most accommodating event in the Alfa calendar. You won't find a warmer welcome anywhere else :D

Sounds like a great suggestion to me, I went to a MITCAR a few years ago and it was very well supported - with a great turnout by the FIAT Forum brigade. I'd like to attend for sure!

Kev, whilst, all being well, I'll be at MITCAR, I'm not sure that you should go to any great lengths to try and get a dedicated area for us at MITCAR as I'm not sure that they'll be a huge turnout by CAF members, maybe trying to run before walking ????

Perhaps better, if possible, to say something like " Lets meet up near the old oak tree which has a yellow ribbon tied around it " sort of thing.

Then again if it is easy and you don't think that you'll end up with, or mind, egg on face by all means go for a dedicated area.

As you know I'm used to wearing egg on face and it's not nice..........

Whatever you decide lets hope it's a good day out for all concerned. :)

I'm up for MITCAR and will round up a few others.

Everyone welcome to come along to Cotswold Alfa Day at Blenheim Palace on Sunday 29th June as well.

We park by model so can make sure we have a dedicated area.

Or just get space for a couple of cars and shrews gazebo.... :D

That way you get to be in the main action, but could just use a small corner with 3 or 4 cars? Is that possible?

Worst case we can create a 'barn find' scene.....straw...cow sh@t and we all have half built cars that shrew can trailer there for us  We don't need a barn, just like the eBay crew don't have one

I will plan to go, it's a good day out, but you won't want a Bavarian interloper parked up with you.

Maybe a good compromise.

I think we could go for a dedicated CAF area as we would have two gazebos and at least 5 cars judging from the responses so far - and it is only March so there are 5 months to go.
We now have 109 members signed on the site in under two months - which is fantastic!
