Cadwell 26/27 July

Post by Veesix75 »

All being well I'm hoping to enter the AROC race at cadwell over the weekend above, it's a CTCRC Classic festival.

Still no clear details of the event yet, and cadwells site lists a different event

So fingers crossed it goes ahead as advertised by aroc as I've just renewed my race licence.

Just seen on the AROC forum that it looks like the Cadwell races have been cancelled due to lack of entrants :(

Yep, not good news and personally gutted as I bought a car specifically to enter !

I really feel or the chaps that have been pushing hard in aroc to get the race series going again as its probably going to make it twice as hard to have that conversation again next year.

Only mitigation might be that cadwell clashed with the Silverstone classic weekend.

I know one person had booked to come down from Scotland so a massive impact for him.

:(

Thats not good news at all eh Tim!

for pre-committed entrants or the aroc championship as a whole

i've been saying for a while that it needs a shake up, and when the rules, characters and persuasions amongst the organising body starts to lose competitors like AHM etc, who was a big draw crowd wise if nothing else, then its time for a rethink.

there is however something in the pipeline i gather, but that maybe for another thread?

The AROC series has struggled since 2001 and the AROC/ARCA split. Adie's car fell foul of the ARCA rules/administration at the time (a couple of years ago now) but he had raced within ARCA for several years since the AROC/ARCA split.

It's a shame that an effective reconciliation has never been possible between AROC and ARCA - though I'm sure that AROC are better off financially organising a few races a year as special events than running a race series - AROC is a club of several thousand whereas the race series has 30/40 registered competitors these days. Back in the AROC days there were 120 registered customers and two full grids - including many cars termed 'classic' at the time - let alone now! The majority of the grid these days are Class E 156's - the natural replacement for the Sud/33 as a race car given the numbers that were sold - not many of us running pre-93 cars in the ARCA series these days......!

Shame your Cadwell race was cancelled Tim, I hope an alternative event shows itself but we know that Cadwell is pretty much the best circuit in the country (closely followed by Croft)!

There is a possibility of entering the ctcrc pre 83 races instead, fingers crossed as there are some interesting cars in the series on a good day. Suspect I will be a bit under powered but it's better than staying at home.

For anyone that was thinking of going, both days have a good mix of races, classics and up to pre 93, so sill an interesting weekend.

Bryan - I remember the double grids well, and being at the back of 34 cars at Silverstone for just the F and E race. It is sad that there are still a few people holding grudges after all this time as a modern race and a 'classic' race on the same day would be great for spectators. One day perhaps.

I've entered the pre '83 series with the classic touring car club.

Not sure of the grid size or what else has entered but fingers crossed for a good mix of cars.

For anyone interested in racing in general it's quite a good and packed weekend.

Thanks Bryan

Sunday went ok, didn't quite get my lap times down to where they need to be, but had a good race with a V8 Rover and a Capri so it was good fun. The v8 rover was quick on the straights and the fast corners, couldn't get close enough to pass him until the very end when I went round the outside at Mansfield, managed to stay at the outside of him on the run to the mountain and finally got past around the outside of the left hander into the mountain bottom, giving me inside on the right to go up the mountain.

The grid had everything from a Morris Minor to Jag XJ12, mk1 Capri to a mk3 Escort, and a droop snoot Firenza.

Overall pleased for the first time racing the car. I need to shave another 3 seconds off my lap times though so a lot to do.

Only issue was the windscreen bogey man got me again, major stone chip on the new screen fitted 2 weeks ago, but that's how it goes sometime.

Adie Hawkins had a fantastic second race and came second in classic thunder with a fastest lap in 1:33

I think it's going to be on motors TV so worth a look as it was a good weekend of racing. The pre 66 battle between a lotus cortina, 2 minis and an anglia was the best race of the weekend.
:D
