Summer Sud meet

Post by KevJTD »

Following on from last years huge success at MITCAR where we surprised a few of the regular show goers with our magnificent display of not only a decent number or cars but on the quality of them all we have again received an invite to attend this years show, think we made an impression :D

So this years MITCAR show is at Gaydon, the British Motor Museum (formerly the Heritage Museum) on the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend.

How do CAF members feel about getting a good a display together as we can to show it wasn't a flash in the pan?

I know it's a bit rich for me to be preaching as I'm currently Sudless so can hardly shout too loud, even more to the point I'm already booked for something that weekend so won't be able to make it myself!

The official press & public relations officer Keith has generously offered (ok, I badgered him....) to step up to the plate and be the point of contact for John and the MITCAR team.....should we feel it's an event that we can turn up at again and make a good showing.

So guys, it's over to you. Who is up for showing the other Alfa model groups that the Suds & Sprints are a force to be reckoned with?

Being a bit further South will I'm sure be a bonus to some, but equally a step too far for some from way up North.

What's the feeling guys?

Well I am in !! :D

Didn't know it came with that title Kev :o !!

As Kev says, our collection made quite an impression last year, so if you are up for it again we shall give it another go.
I think (please correct me if I am wrong) this year will mark 40 years of the Sprint so maybe we could try and use that as a feature.
I am sure as time rolls on we will discus this more but we thought we would put it out there to let you all know the invite is there.
Cheers
Keith

MITCAR was a great day last year and think it was mooted on the day that it might be a regular thing for the annual 'sud gathering, being a good starting point to get both the cars from the North and the South together. It was certainly the biggest 'Sud gathering since 09 and I think everyone that went had a great day

Surely there is room for 2 big gatherings this year.

So yes Keith, me and the Series 2 will be up for it if it gets off the ground. Also should be good for Chatsworth too. Only spokes in the wheels could be holidays (which I've not booked yet) and torrential rain but I expect that's the same for many at this point.

Cheers

Cheers Miles,
As you say i am sure we can have more than one event. Sometimes people are not able to make a date so this doubles the chance :D
I plan to go to more than one event this year in my car, hoping to get to SAD as well as the National. :P

MITCAR wasn't ever intended to be an "instead of" meet with regards to NAD, more like as well as.
To have the situation where at long last there are double figures (and more) great Suds & Sprints dotted around the country means that we can look forward to seeing them out on more than one occasion.
I for one won't be able to make MITCAR due to other stuff in the diary that weekend, but I will be at NAD. So no favouritism there on my part!
There's room in the diary for everyone, logistically the more Southerly location of MITCAR this year may help the guys that I know have cars down in Devon and the South coast make the decision that they can justify the ride out, last year I know was just a bit too far for some, understandably so.

Lets have a double celebration with a gathering of boxers to rival the other model clubs that have enjoyed more numbers in the past, and celebrate having the best underdog Alfa ever made ;) .......even if I haven't got one anymore :(

I hope to be able to take the 6C to this and have the chance to visit the museum. At least we are not due to be on holiday......so far!

Nice one Philip, I have been in touch with John and he has told me the museum has had a massive revamp, including the addition of a new building, the 'Collections Centre'. He was very impressed on his visit the other week.

He says they have lots of room for creating smart displays and will hold an area on the special grass area for suds, however many we get as people always love to see them.

People can book advance tickets at a discount via the link on the MITCAR webpage here:

"Hi" to you all, and time for a reminder.
As stated at the start of this thread, members of this fine forum have been invited back to make our contribution to the displays that is MITCAR.
We had a good turn out last year, and a similar number this year at National Alfa Day in Derbyshire.
Kev is unable to make it this year but I hope we can still get quite a few cars at the show.
I was thinking / wondering if, with your support, we could perhaps make a special effort to feature the Sprint this year as it is the 40th anniversary of its launch.
If you agree to the idea, and can give an indication as to how many Sprints can come, I can try to arrange with John our parking layout so that we could park them all together, then the other Suds and CAF members cars could fill in around them.
I appreciate some of you have other commitments, but the venue is good and it would be nice if we can show the following for our cars and forum is strong.
Thanks ,in advance for your support.
Keith.

Hi to you all,
Well as we are a week away from this event I thought I would just try and get some feedback from members, as to how many hope to come.
I will be in contact soon with John Griffiths and it would be nice if I can give him some idea of how much space we will need. Have any of you already got tickets?
I still like the idea of getting as many Sprints together if possible, road and race, and all series, what do you think?
Hope we can get another good turn out this year, so if you could post on here or pm me that would be great.
Well over to you guys now and look forward to meeting up next Sunday.
Thanks.
Keith. :D

H Keith

Just booked a hotel near Stratford so will be there. Hopefully in the 'Sud,

Hopefully will be a decent turnout. The fact its August bank holiday weekend is probably making it difficult for some...nothing you can do about that I know.

Look forward to seeing you, plenty of suds and the legendary 'N' plate...

Well apart from the odd spit, the rain stayed away and there was a good turn out of cars, bearing in mind this event was open to all Italian marques, Alfas were without doubt, the largest collective group.
Nice , again, to meet up with new and old friends and the location was good.
Enough babble and here are a few more pics.

Nice to meet up with you and your Dad again, Ted with his son (soon to be an alfa owner i'm sure) any others
Can't believe there were more suds than 33's :o
Still out of the 3 33's at least mine sort of made it in the pics (only due to being parked between a sprint and a sud :D

Had a good drive home, got the girl up to 90 for the first time - seems to like 80 rather than 70 though - (must be the Italian in her)
