Tyres

I'll be looking for a set of tyres soon for my Rochdale Olympic.

Probably 165/ 70/ 14. Or maybe 175.

Won't be doing mega miles.

I've always avoided Chinese made tyres, but I read on line that their quality is much improved, and some of the big name tyres are actually made there.

I wondered what experience others have had, and what tyres they might recommend?

I saw Mazzini tyres on Black Circles.........made in China! But good reviews.

I wouldn’t based on what you can get here for £40 upwards. Fitting extra bot kumho at 40, yoko, uniroyal etc.

The Chinese stuff on my daughter’s Fiat 500 was fine in warm dry weather, poor in cold and damp. It’s got Yokohama now.

You seem to want to avoid Chinese tyres......like me!

Mazzini ECO 307 are B rated in the wet !

Hi Dave, warm and wet they were ok, warm and dry as good as a Fiat 500 needed. But cold and wet/damp not great.

To be fair Michelin pilot sport can be twitchy in cold and damp.

I noticed a marked improvement in ride and road noise when I put the yoko’s on as well as grip

To help with my conscience I have fitted eco tyres on the Lancia and they suit it fine.

Had them on my day to day car for years and they have lasted well and save fuel costs.

Plus they only cost me £50 each at the time. Oddly people consistently expect them to be more expensive.

Not sure why they have this expectation.

Vredesteins would be my choice for a classic, unless you want to consider the very expensive period tyres from the likes of Longstone. Not Chinese, but made in India these days I believe...

I have always found the wet weather performance of Vreds to be very good, handy if you use your car all year round.
